Masum Hamid (Bengali: মাসূম হামীদ); is a British-Bangladeshi nasheed artist, vocalist and songwriter. He sings in a number of languages such as English, Arabic, Bengali and Urdu. He is also the leader of the Labbayk nasheed group, which he founded in 2004.

Biography[edit]

Masum was born to Bengali Muslim parents in England in 1987. He grew up in London, England but his father was from Sylhet Division in Bangladesh.

Career[edit]

In March 2013, he appeared on Channel 4's 4thought.tv.[1] In October of the same year, Masum was interviewed by Nadia Ali on BBC Asian Network.[2] In March 2017, Masum was also interviewed by acclaimed musician Fatima Al Qadiri as part of a BBC Radio 4 Documentary titled The Sound of Bombs which explores how nasheeds are being misused by extremists as propaganda material.[3]

With Labbayk[edit]

Labbayk has released 5 albums; Rhymes of Praise (2008), The Greatest Gift (2012), Gratitude (2016), Karaoke (2019) and Remembrance (2021). The group also released their first single Mustafa in 2018.

Outside of Labbayk[edit]

Masum has assisted the vocals in many tracks such as Imtiyaz Sidat's Thug Life, Hafiz Mizan's Aey Khuda and Tala ‘al Badru ‘alayna, Nowshad Mahfuz's Ekti Bochor and Thank You Allah, and Yousuf Younus al-Blüshi's Baluchan.

In August 2009, a collaborative charity single "Feed the World, Feed the Fasting" was released by Muslim Aid. The song featured Masum along with artists Rizwan Hussain, Abdullah Rolle, Muslim Belal, Khaleel Muhammad and Mecca2Medina.[4]
