Mata Manikeshwari was born on July 27, 1934, in Mallabad village in Kalaburagi district. She left home even after her marriage as she was interested in self-exploration. She was devoted to Lord Shiva in the form of Srisailam Mallikarjuna (one of the Jyotirlingas). As she began her spiritual journey, she started to live in a cave on a hillock at Yanagundi village in the present day Yadgir district. She used to come out of the cave only once a year during Mahashivratri to give darshan to devotees. She died at the age of 87 on March 8, 2020. She was referred to as Mahayogini (a great Yogini) by local people.[1]
