Material Success is a 2012 Canadian documentary film by Jesse Mann about the story of Bruno Ierullo, a Toronto-based fashion designer who makes a drastic career change after a personal tragedy inspires him to follow his dreams. The film captures Ierullo and his team as they create a 300-piece collection that must be constructed within a months’ time.[1][2][3]

It was released in the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom in September 2015 after being screened at several film festivals including Canadian Film Festival, Victoria Film Festival, St. Louis International Film Festival,[4] Poznan Art & Fashion Festival,[5] the Miami Fashion Film Festival and the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. The movie is distributed internationally by Filmbuff.

Production[edit]

In production predominantly for the months of August and September 2009, the filmmakers shot over 200 hours of footage following Ierullo both at home and in studio. Other locations featured are textile and leathersmith shops, and a button factory.[6][7]

Soundtrack[edit]

The original score was composed for the film by Mark Holmes of Platinum Blonde, who has a cameo feature in the film, and was inspired by his appreciation for Hammond organ music popular in mid-50's to early 70's jazz.

Awards[edit]

The film is winner of the Audience Choice Award for Best Film at the Canadian Film Festival[8][9] and winner of Best Documentary Film at the Toronto Independent Film Festival in 2012.[10]
