Mathigon is an interactive, digital textbook for secondary mathematics. All its content is freely available and open-source.[2] The platform has 400,000 active users per year, and aims to promote skills like creativity and problem-solving.[3] It can be used by teachers in classrooms, or by individual students.[4]

Content[edit]

Mathigon's curriculum, parts of which are still under development, coves mathematics for students aged 11 to 18. Courses range from traditional topics like prime numbers and trigonometry, to more recreational topics like graph theory, fractals and mathematical origami.[5]

The content is primarily text-based, but contains many interactive elements, games and problems to keep students engaged. The content is revealed in small steps, and students must show their understanding of prerequisite concepts, before being able to move on. An interactive chat-bot gives hints and encouragement.[6]

Additional activities and resources include a timeline of mathematics,[7] virtual manipulatives and origami models, as well as games and apps developed in collaboration with MEI, [8] MoMath (the National Museum of Mathematics in New York City), and IMAGINARY. [9]

Recognition[edit]

Mathigon has gained recognition both nationally and internationally:
