Matt Graham (born May 9, 1984) is an American record executive, music manager, and investor. Founder of music management company, BRND MGMT, Graham represents artists such as Midland, Wale, Nicky Romero and has formerly managed artists such as Cody Simpson, Andrew Watt, and Mike Posner. He is also the founder of record label, Tuxedo Records which include artists such as Corey Harper, Desure, Zolita, and Emir.

Early Life and Career[edit]

Matt Graham grew up in Great Neck, New York. Graham began his career in music after meeting Scooter Braun freshman year at Emory University. Scooter brought him into the world of club promotions and helped Graham get an internship at So So Def. Midway through college, Graham took the reigns of club promotion business, Misedukated Entertainment as Scooter Braun segwayed into his larger music industry pursuits. Managing his business and working with Scooter Braun allowed Graham to learn valuable tools that helped him excel in the entertainment industry.[1] [2]

After graduating in 2006, Graham continued to grow his business and eventually sold his club promotion business in mid-2007.[3] Graham moved to New York to work for Cornerstone, a New York music and marketing promotions company and owner of The FADER [media network].[4] While working for Cornerstone, Graham found and developed two artists. The first artist being Mike Posner, who Graham was responsible for releasing hits such as, “Drug Dealer Girl” and “Cooler Than Me,” before connecting him to a more experienced music manager and long time friend, Dan Weisman. The immediate success of Posner gave Graham the confidence to become a music manager which he used to identify an intern named Jared Evan whom Graham eventually developed and signed to Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records in 2009. Retrieved April 11, 2019.</ref> [5] Graham left Cornerstone/The Fader in 2009 to form BRND MGMT, or "Brand Management." Less than two years later, in 2011, Grahams' old friend, Scooter Braun was celebrating his 30th birthday party in LA and talked about working together again. The next morning, the two began talking and Braun asked Graham to join "SB Projects," which at that time consisted of Justin Bieber and Asher Roth.[6] The two decided to go after a 14-year-old Australian singer, Cody Simpson who was posting on YouTube. Less than a year later in 2012, Graham and his wife, Sarah, moved to Los Angeles to open the SB Projects office along with Scott Manson, Brad Hogan, Allison Kaye[7]. Later, Graham introduced Ariana Grande to Scooter and helped shepard her into the SB Projects family.[8] [9]. While managing Simpson for five years, Graham oversaw multiple album releases, international tours, TV and movie appearances, a doll deal with Toys R Us,[10] and a book deal with Harper Collins. [11] He also administered over a hundred brand and licensing deals with companies such as Ralph Lauren,[12]Hollister, [13] Coca Cola[14] and 1800 Flowers. While initially hesitant to enter the teen pop world, Graham recognized how musically gifted Simpson was and the years spent managing him forever laid the foundation for understanding the hard work and sheer force of will it takes to launch someone from YouTube into a global celebrity.[15] Graham also guided Alli Simpson out from under the shadow of big brother, Cody. Alli became the youngest nationally syndicated radio host after she and Graham created, The Alli Simpson Show, in 2014 for Radio Disney. [16] Matt Graham also managed songwriter of the year for 2019 BMI Pop Awards, Andrew Watt who became Cody’s musical director and guitar player.[17][18]

BRND MGMT[edit]

After four years working with Braun, as SB Projects Senior Manager, Matt Graham stepped out on his own in 2015 to re-launch his company, BRND MGMT.[19] Under Graham’s watch, the company has built an impressively diverse array of musicians, writers, and cultural influencers. In the last several years, Graham has signed and developed the two-time Grammy Award nominees and country music’s fastest rising stars, Midland [20] [21][22] as well as Jasmine Thompson on Atlantic Records and XYLØ on Distruptor/Sony Records. Since the addition of BRND MGMTs' other managers, Jordan Dettmer[23], Dylan Sosa (previously of 360), and Jack Minihan (previously of Creed Co)[24], the roster has grown to include global dance music super-star Nicky Romero, Grammy nominated hip-hop artist Wale (Warner Bros. Records), The Score, (Republic Records)[25] Atta Boy (Fueled By Ramen) and multi-hyphenate, SOKO. The company has also recently launched their own label, "Tuxedo Records," featuring artists Corey Harper, Desure, Emir, and Zolita.[26]

Some current projects for BRND MGMT include consulting for Netflix on their show “The Ranch”[27] while executive producing the soundtrack, launching a podcast for Midland with Spotify, and releasing a new tequila with Midland. Graham is producing a rodeo film alongside mega producer, Ian Bryce and co-manager Jason allen that will be directed by Cameron Duddy and feature Midlands' music prominently.

Other Ventures[edit]

Graham co-founded Winston House, a house for creatives to share music and meet like-minded people. Winston House has helped hundreds of up and coming artists and has even worked with significant and notable names such as Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Hozier, Janelle Monae, Billie Eilish, Vance Joy, and The Shins.[28]

Graham is also an investor in Casper Mattresses, House Beer, STEM, Cloud Technology Partners which was recently sold to Hewlett Packard.[29] [30][31]
