Matt Mowers is an American politician who is a Republican candidate for New Hampshire's 1st congressional district in the 2022 election.
Early life and education
Mowers was raised in Bedford, New Hampshire, and East Brunswick, New Jersey. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and government from Rutgers University–New Brunswick.[1][2] As a college student, Mowers worked as executive director of the Bergen County Republican Organization and managed State Senator Gerald Cardinale's 2006 re-election campaign.[3]
Career
From 2010 to 2013, Mowers served as New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's regional director. In 2010, he managed Tom Goodwin's successful campaign for a seat in the New Jersey Senate.[4] From 2013 to 2015, Mowers worked as the executive director of the New Hampshire Republican State Committee. From 2015 to 2016, he was the New Hampshire director for the Chris Christie 2016 presidential campaign. In 2016, Mowers testified in a trial about the Fort Lee lane closure scandal.[5][6]
After Donald Trump won the Republican nomination for the 2016 United States presidential election, Mowers joined the campaign as national field coordinator and battleground states director.[7] Mowers worked on the Presidential transition of Donald Trump and joined the White House Office as an advisor after Trump was sworn in as president. From 2017 to 2019, he served as chief of staff and chief policy advisor in the Office of the United States Global AIDS Coordinator. Mowers was a candidate for New Hampshire's 1st congressional district in the 2020 election, losing to Chris Pappas. He is a candidate for the same seat in the 2022 election.[8] During his campaign, he was endorsed by Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Minority Whip Steve Scalise, and former Trump advisors Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie.[9]
