Matthew Davidson Schichter (/ʃikˈtər/; born May 10, 1983) is a Canadian television personality, producer and director, best known as host of the talk shows MSN Exclusives and The BackStage Pass. His production company, Eighty Three Pictures recently wrapped production on music videos for Canadian singer-songwriter Colleen Brown and blues rocker Matt Blais. He is currently producing two short films to be released in 2014. Recent guests on MSN Exclusives include Robert De Niro, Katy Perry, Lady GaGa, Kevin Hart and Metallica.
Life and career[edit]
Schichter was born in Montreal, Quebec and grew up in Waterloo, Ontario. At Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School he performed, produced, co-wrote and directed a series of comedic short films, sketches and concerts. He earned a Diploma in Radio & Television Broadcasting from Conestoga College in 2006.[1]
Radio[edit]
In October 2003, while in college, Matt launched 'The BackStage Pass' on CJIQ. The weekly show, produced, edited and hosted by Schichter featured weekly in-depth interviews with musicians including BB King, The Fray, Darius Rucker and Jason Mraz.[2]
In 2006, Matt took the show to Los Angeles, Detroit, Toronto and Calgary to record bi-weekly podcasts featuring musicians Three Days Grace, The Beach Boys and actor Gary Sinise to name but a few.[3]
Moving to Calgary, Alberta Matt was a key contributor in the launch of Fuel 90.3 [4] and AMP Radio.[5] The station originally aired an adult album alternative format, flipping to a modern rock format after a year. Schichter served as Music Director under both formats while hosting the station's Evening and Weekend shows. He also hosted a weekly Canadian music showcase entitled '16th Ave', was a Polaris Music Prize juror, engineered in studio sessions,[6] hosted weekly live concert series at various venues around Calgary, and the stations $250,000 contest 'RockStar'.[7] During the 2008 Juno Awards Matt was asked to be a correspondent on Canada AM.[8]
Video Host[edit]
After directing a music video for country artist Lindsay Ell in 2009,[9] Matt agreed to a deal with Hiltz Squared Media Group. He was to start production on a live-streaming video podcast series to shop to networks. Taking the radio show's title of 'The BackStage Pass' Matt traveled across North America during 2010 to host, produce and direct the show. The series began broadcasting in February from the 2010 Winter Olympic featuring Canadian athletes and celebrities including David Suzuki. The BackStage Pass eventually garnered over 4 million viewers and featured hundreds of musicians, actors, environmentalists, whale trainers, politicians and athletes.[10]
Return to Radio[edit]
While filming in Los Angeles, Matt received an offer to be a part of the launch of CKEA 95.7 The Sound in Edmonton. A new adult album alternative radio station where he served as Music Director and Drive time Host. He also a weekly live concert series from The Haven Social Club and was a panelist at the 2011 New Music West festival.[11]

In January 2012, Matt began hosting the MSN web series 'MSN Exclusives' featuring interview with actors, musicians and celebrities. The series has also covered SXSW, Toronto International Film Festival, Juno Awards, Academy Award, Golden Globe Award and Much Music Video Awards. Recent guests include Robert De Niro, Lady GaGa, Bradley Cooper, Katy Perry, and Metallica.[12]
Matt also currently hosts informational news segments for the News Minute Network.[13]
Actor[edit]
During the summer of 2012, Matt began acting on television shows filming around Toronto. He's appeared on episodes of Suits, The Firm, Lost Girl, Warehouse 13 and Degrassi: The Next Generation. He also appeared in a Rogers Wireless commercial, a handful of music videos and an upcoming short film to be released in 2014.[14]

In 2013, Matt directed, and with the help of his production company, Eighty Three Pictures, produced music videos for Matt Blais's Goodbye Sunshine [15] and Colleen Brown's Mountain Man.
Writer[edit]
In May 2012, Schichter began writing columns for MSN Entertainment. The almost twice-weekly columns vary from musician Q&As to television features, concert reviews and festival coverage.[16]
