Matthew Paul Rix (born May 20, 1981) is an American A&R Director, music business success coach, Music Industry analyst and critic, motivational speaker, radio host, and author of the Mattrix Minute. The Mattrix Minute audio series has had over 8 million sales and streams.[1] On July 14, 2016, Forced Music Conference announced that Rix will be the keynote speaker for their conference and the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, jr., Alveda King will speak before him.[2]
Politics
Matthew was a very active supporter of Florida Senator Marco Rubio for president. In February 2016, Matthew was filling in for radio host Phil Williams on the Phil Williams Show and declared that he could not vote for Donald Trump for president. Matthew predicted that day that if Donald Trump became the nominee, the media would reveal negative aspects of his past as an entertainer.[3] In July 2016, Matthew told an interviewer with Force Music Conference, "Hillary Clinton is the only option at this point."[4] On July 14, 2016, Matthew reversed his prior position on Hillary Clinton being the only option and endorsed independent candidate Evan McMullin for President on his Twitter account.[5] On October 13, 2016.
Self Help
Matthew is known for using self-help techniques to deliver his message. "I was very skeptical at first. I was curious but dismissed this as a motivational hype-based hug-your-neighbor session," said one reviewer of an event Matthew was speaking at.[6] On August 22, 2016. Jessica Northey cited Matthew as the Tony Robbins of the Music Industry.[7]
Mattrix Minute
Themes explored in the Mattrix Minute include:
- The diminishing role of the major record labels in current recorded music and the corresponding increasing influence and importance of grassroots artist activities such as live performances and direct online relationships with fans.
- The decline of CD sales as alternate online music services such as Spotify continue to dominate the music industry.
- The mindset that you must have a Record Label to be successful, when all the resources you need are in your phone.
- The need to bring awareness about the scams in the music industry involving freelance A&R Directors and marketing companies.
- Rix's own personal experiences with dealing with Radio Stations and Record Labels.
- Rix's personal observations on why Artists do not succeed in the Music Business.
