Matthew Noel Weldon (born 31 December 2005) is an Irish cricketer.

He plays for the Munster Reds in Irish domestic cricket and has represented Ireland at U-19 level.

Domestic career

Matthew Weldon was raised in Skerries and plays club cricket for his local team The Hills.

At the age of 14 he won Cricket Leinster's "Find A Fast Bowler" competition, of which Ireland international Josh Little is a former winner.[1]

In 2022, Weldon was named in an Ireland U-17s team to play in the Cricket Ireland Future Series, the level just below senior domestic cricket.

In May 2023 Weldon was named in the Munster Reds squad for the 2023 Inter-Provincial season.[2] He would make his debut in a T20 match against Leinster Lightning just a week later, going wicketless in two overs.[3]

International career

The young pace bowler was called into the Ireland U-19 squad for a development tour of South Africa in March 2023 to play the Titans Academy.[4]

Later in the year he would also take part in a tour of Great Britain where he would face off against Scotland U-19s.[5]

Weldon was named in the final squad for the 2024 U-19 Cricket World Cup.[6] He would make his World Cup debut against Bangladesh on 22 January, taking 1/46 from his 6.5 overs. It would be the only game Weldon played at the tournament.[7]
