Murder of Kim Damti
Kim Damti was a woman with Israeli and Irish citizenship who was declared missing after Hamas militants attacked the "Supernova Sukkot Gathering" music festival near Re'im in Israel on 7 October 2023. Damti was confirmed dead on 11 October 2023. Tributes were paid to her in the Irish parliament, Dáil Éireann, where Tánaiste Micheál Martin described her as "a young 22-year-old with her full life ahead of her only for it to be cut down in a barbaric way".[1]
Background[edit]
Damti was born in Israel and lived in the town of Gedera. Through her mother, Jennifer, who is from Portlaoise, Damti held Irish citizenship. She and her four siblings would regularly spend their summers in Ireland.[2]
Supernova attack[edit]
On Saturday 7 October 2023, Hamas launched a surprise attack, firing thousands of rockets from Gaza into Israel. Armed militants broke down the barriers surrounding Gaza, and entered Israel. At the "Supernova Sukkot Gathering" in Re'im, Hamas killed 260 festivalgoers, injured many more, and took an unknown number of hostages.[3]
Funeral[edit]
Damti was confirmed dead on 11 October.[4] Her funeral was held on Thursday 12 October in Gedera.
