Maureen Hartung

Maureen Patricia Hartung, OAM is an Australian educator and established the Blue Gum Community School in Canberra. In the 2016 Australia Day Honours, she was awarded Medal of the Order of Australia for service to education, and to the community of the Australian Capital Territory.[1]

Personal

Hartung is married to Greg Hartung and has two children - Catherine and Michael.[2]

Professional career

Hartung was a social science teacher at Dickson College from 1989–1990. [3]In 1997, she founded the Blue Gum Community School in Canberra and became its inaugural Executive Director, a position that she holds in 2019. The Blue Gum School has more than 200 students from playgroup to Year 10, the school is independent and based on the Reggio Emilia approach of child-centredness.[2] Hartung is a strong advocate for the independent school sector,[4] [5] and a critic of Commonwealth funding for independent schools.[6][7]
