Maxwell B. Chambers is an American businessman and politician serving as a member of the Miramar City Commission in Miramar, Florida, representing Seat 1. He was first elected to the Commission in 2015 and has been re-elected in subsequent cycles, including 2017 and 2021.

Early life

Chambers was born in Clarendon Parish, Jamaica, and was raised by a single mother alongside two siblings. His mother emigrated to the United States to find work, and Chambers joined her at age 18. He has lived in Miramar since 2007. He is the father of five children.

Business career

Before entering politics, Chambers owned and operated a custom cabinetry business for 17 years.

Political career

Chambers was first elected to the Miramar City Commission in 2015. He was selected by his colleagues to serve as Vice Mayor in 2016, a position he held into 2017, when he was re-elected to the Commission. He was re-elected again in 2021.

As commissioner, Chambers has been an advocate against the use of red-light traffic cameras and has supported organizations serving women and children. He has sponsored college-preparatory workshops aimed at students with below-average grade point averages and created a scholarship program for graduates of Miramar's three public high schools. He is a volunteer with KAPOW (Kids and the Power of Work) and serves on the board of the Police Athletic League (PAL), which provides low-cost youth sports programming in the city.
