Meagan Mangene (born August 21, 1992) is an American professional ice hockey player for the Connecticut Whale of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL).
Playing career[edit]
Youth[edit]
She played youth hockey in the North American Hockey Academy system.[1]
Collegiate[edit]
Mangene played on the women's ice hockey team for Boston College, where she captained the team as a senior in the 2013–14 season.[2][3][4][5][6] She helped her team win the 16th Beanpot Title.[7] Her team made it to the Frozen Four in her freshman and sophomore years with the team.[8] Her team was eliminated in the 2012 Frozen Four after losing 6 - 2 to Wisconsin.[9]
NWHL[edit]
Mangene joined the Boston Pride as a practice player for the NWHL's inaugural 2015–16 season, appearing in 7 regular season games for the franchise.[10][11][12][5] Mangene won the 2016 Isobel Cup with the Boston Pride.[13]
On July 28, 2016, it was announced that Mangene had signed a one-year, $12,000 contract to play with the Connecticut Whale for the 2016–17 season.[14][4] She played a number of games with the team that season, including one against New York where she managed four shots on goal.[15]
National team[edit]
Mangene represented the United States at three different editions of U-18 world championships, coming away with a pair of gold medals and a silver medal.[8] At the 2008 edition, the first in the competition, her team opened with an 11–0 victory against Russia with Mangene contributing one goal.[16] Meeting Canada in the final, Mangene would contribute a goal on the way to her team claiming gold.[17][18] She scored one goal for the USA in their 4 – 5 loss in the gold medal game against Canada in the 2010 edition.[19]
Personal[edit]
Sports are a tradition in Mangene's family. Her brother played for Boston College. Her grandfather played for the same university, competing in the 1943 Orange Bowl.[8]
