Meeting at the Tower
Meeting at the Tower[1] aliases: A Date at the Tower (Arabic: موعد في البرج translit: Maww’ed fel Borg or Mawed fe elborg)[2] is a 1962 Egyptian film directed by Ezzel Dine Zulficar and starring Salah Zulfikar and Soad Hosny. Film's costume and set designer is Shadi Abdel Salam. As with many Egyptians movies of the golden age of Egyptian Cinema, it combines drama, action, and romance. The film pairs two of Egypt's most beloved stars, Salah Zulfikar and Soad Hosny who made magic together onscreen as star-crossed lovers destined to meet again at Cairo Tower. The film holds a mirror up to Egyptian society in early 1960s. It ends up with the date agreed between the two main characters at the newly built, Cairo Tower.[3][4][5][6]

Plot[edit]
Adel met Amaal on a ship bound for Alexandria while they were both trying to steal jewels from a wealthy elderly woman named Khadiga Hanem, who considered Adel her fiancé. An old Anatolian man loved Amaal and also wanted to court her, but the two thieves fell in love. They decided to meet at the Cairo Tower after 6 months. Adel began working as a cook on a ship; his situation improved when the captain discovered he knew a number of languages. Amaal's brother Alaa was a gangleader who tried to force his sister to continue stealing and exploting her Anatolian fiancé while he prepared to steal his money. Amaal did everything in her power and worked at a modest job despite all the difficulties, but she did not succeed in getting the money. The day came when she was supposed to meet Adel at the Cairo tower, but she had an automobile accident on the way there. Adel was waiting for her, but he found himself surrounded by Alaa's men. He was able to get away from them but he did not know what had happened to his sweetheart. Adel tried to find her and while he was looking for her, he decided he would marry her and decided to look for an honorable job. He works in a small job in a hotel and becomes a deputy director. Then he found her and they married. When the police storms Alaa's apartment, who was killed while the arrest. Adel and Amaal meet in the Cairo Tower at the appointed time and get married and went on a honeymoon to Europe.[7]
