Mega Cebu is one of the two megalopolis areas in the Philippines. It occupies the whole Visayas Region (Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Central Visayas). It is the second largest megalopolis in the Philippines by population and economy and the largest by land area. It is in contrast to the term Metro Cebu which is the main metropolitan area of the megalopolis. Mapping out the built-up area around Cebu requires finer granularity than the more generic term Mega Cebu. Mega Cebu is used in general references to the relationship of Cebu City and Metro Cebu to the surrounding provinces and Metropolitan Areas in the Visayas.

Transportation[edit]

Air[edit]

Mega Cebu has a large number of airports, 5 of which are international airports with Mactan-Cebu International Airport as the busiest[22] and the main airport to the megalopolis. Since 2016, a good number of airports in the megalopolis are upgraded, expanded, created or replaced. Some of the notable projects of the Duterte Administration are found below:

Mactan-Cebu International Airport[edit]

Recently, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport was expanded and the Terminal 2 was operational by 1 July 2018[23]. A second runway is under construction after its budget was approved[24].

Road[edit]

One of the problems that the megalopolis is facing is the increasing traffic congestion in the urban areas especially in the wide urban area in Metro Cebu[25]. Narrow roads in the megalopolis causes heavy traffic in busy parts of the megalopolis. The Duterte Administration under its Build, Build, Build! program is solving this in the megalopolis. Of the three metropolitan areas in the megalopolis, Metro Cebu has the highest rate of traffic congestion. A proposed bus rapid transit and Light Rail Transit system will be constructed in Metro Cebu to decongest the busy roads of the city[26].

Sea[edit]

As the megalopolis is an archipelago, seaports are the main access in the megalopolis. Several international seaports are found in the megalopolis. The most notable one is the Cebu International Port which is stopped at by 80% of the Philippines' total domestic shipping lines.

Infrastructural Projects[edit]

The Duterte Administration, through its Build Build Build! Program has a lot of infrastructural projects in the megalopolis area. During the 2016 Presidential elections, Duterte received a lot of votes from Cebu and with this, he promised many projects in Cebu. Many of these projects are solutions to the worsening traffic in Metro Cebu. The projects are as follows[27]
