Mehadrin Dairy Corporation, commonly referred to as Mehadrin, is the largest supplier of cholov yisroel dairy foods in the United States and is headquartered in Elizabeth, NJ.[1]

History[edit]

The company was founded by Elias Weinberger in 1950[2] and is currently owned and ran by Zalman Leib Farkas. Although founded as a small corporation, it grew to become the largest cholov yisroel supplier in the United States, selling a wide range of dairy products, as well as other frozen/refrigerated products. Since there is not a big enough cholov yisroel market, the company cannot afford to operate its own ice cream factory, and therefore rents out existing ice cream plants where they then work to make the machinery kosher.[3] They also operate ice cream trucks.[4]

Ice Qream[edit]

Mehadrin also produces a line of non-dairy desserts akin to ice cream, under the name "Ice Qream" (with the acronym being 'IQ'). Ice Qream is made primarily of soy, although the company worked with scientists at Pennsylvania State University to eliminate the soy taste and make it taste similar to dairy ice cream.[3]

Confetti[edit]

Mehadrin owns the Confetti ice cream brand, which sells ice cream in sealed bowls, as well as other ice cream related desserts.[5]
