Syed Mehmosh Raza (Urdu: سید مہموش رزا; born March 16, 1995) is a Pakistani-born professional mixed martial artist who currently competes in the featherweight division of the Brave Combat Federation (Brave CF)..[1]. As of February 18, 2021, he is #18 in the Asia Southeast Pro Featherweights rankings[2]. Raza is widely regarded as the pound for pound number one MMA fighter in Pakistan.

Early Life[edit]

Syed Mehmosh Raza was born in Islamabad, Pakistan on the 16 March 1995. A year later his family moved to the United Kingdom. After spending a few years in Birmingham Raza spent the majority of his time growing up in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland up till age 14 where he was bullied for being an outsider. In 2010, Raza moved back to Pakistan and continued his schooling where he was still being bullied for being an outsider. Raza being an active cricket player back in Ireland would go to the United Kindgom in the summers to play cricket for Essex County.

It wasn’t after his cousin showed him a few UFC and Pride tapes that he fell in love with mixed martial arts[3]. It was in 2015, when he began his training at a local gym called Fight Fortress and made his amateur debut 6 months later.

Mixed Martial Arts Career[edit]

Early Career[edit]

Raza began his MMA career with team Fight Fortress after losing a smoker fight with just two weeks of bag work in his arsenal[4]. Six months into training Raza had his first amateur MMA fight against Pakistani taekwondo black belt Kamran Majeed[5] which saw Raza win by knock out in the first round. Not being able to secure more amateur fights Raza decided to become a professional fighter. Raza landed his first pro fight against Asgher Changezi (0-2-0) on July 15, 2015 at the Beatdown TFF. He won the fight by unanimous decision after 3 rounds. In his second fight Raza had his first loss against Jeorey Orao (3-2-0) on March 19, 2016 via submission (Neck Crank) at the UGB MMA Championship 14[6] in Manila, Philippines.

PAKMMA Fighting Alliance[edit]

Raza had his third professional fight against Haroon Sohail (0-3-0) at the PAKMMA FIGHTING ALLIANCE 3: REBORN on April 16, 2016 . The fight saw him win by submission via rear naked choke[7]. Many considered the victory to be a fluke which led to a rematch between the two fighters. On January 28, 2017 at the PAKMMA FIGHTING ALLIANCE 5: UPROAR, Raza won again against Sohail by split decision laying rest to any claims against his ability[8][9].

After his victory Raza was expected to face Dhruv Chaudhary (14-7-0) at the IMPI World Series Asia 6 on April 1, 2017 but the bout was cancelled[10].

Rebel FC 6: China vs. The World[edit]

Going into his fourth professional fight Raza was set to face Yisima Abudu (0-1-0) at Rebel FC 6: China vs. The World on September 2, 2017. He won the bout by submission via rear naked choke[11].

FightStar Championship 13[edit]

Raza suffered his second loss at the hands of Bjarki Omarsson (2-1-0) who won the fight by decision at the FightStar Championship 13 in London, England on December 9, 2017[12].

Victory Fight Night 3[edit]

After his loss against Omarsson, Raza made a comeback at Victory Fight Night 3 in Lahore, Pakistan on January 27, 2018 where he won the one-day four man tournament by dropping Muhammad Usman (1-1-0) in the first round, winning the fight by TKO and then winning against Amanullah Khan by unanimous decision in the next hour[13].

Rebel FC 7[edit]

Raza's next fight took place at Rebel FC 7 in Shanghai, China against Igor Grytskiv ( 2-202-2)[14] who was coming off a 7 fight win streak all won in the first round on April 29, 2018. He won the bout by majority decision claiming his seventh victory[15].

Glory of Heroes[edit]

At Glory of Heroes 33, Raza lost against Xian Ji (21-5-0) by submission via guillotine choke on July 28, 2018[16].

Aspera Fighting Championships[edit]

With his loss to Ji, Mehmosh came into his eleventh fight against Adonis Sevilleno (2-2-0) at the Aspera Fighting Championships in Manila, Philippines on August 26, 2018 with more motivated than ever. He submitted Sevilleno via a rear naked choke hold in the first round to claim the vacant featherweight title and his eight win[17].

Brave Combat Federation[edit]

With 11 professional fights under his belt Mehmosh made his debut in Brave Combat Federation[18]against Arben Escayo (6-6-0) on October 27, 2018 at Brave CF 17. He won the fight by submission via guillotine choke and set the Brave CF record for the fastest submission in Brave CF history[19].

He then fought Rolando Dy (10-7-0) at Brave CF 22 on March 15, 2019[20]. He lost the bout by TKO[21]

Raza's next fight came up against 10th Planet BJJ Black Belt and Taekwondo world champion Calum Murrie (5-2-0) who came from BELLATOR at Brave CF 43 where he won the bout by split decision[22][23][24]and claimed his tenth professional win[25]
