Nick Gonzalez (born March 3, 1981) is an American mixed martial artist of Mexican descent currently competing in the Lightweight division.[1] A professional competitor since 2001, has fought for Strikeforce, Elite Xtreme Combat and Bellator.
Mixed martial arts career[edit]
Early career[edit]
Gonzalez started his professional career in 2001. From his mixed martial arts debut to April 2007, he fought mainly for southern American promotions like World Extreme Fighting, Renegades Extreme Fighting, Freestyle Fighting Championships and Xtreme Fight Championship.
He compiled a record of 12-4 before signing with Strikeforce.
Strikeforce and EliteXC[edit]
Gonzalez faced Josh Thomson on June 22, 2007 at Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Baroni. He lost via submission due to a rear-naked choke in the first round.[2]
Gonzalez faced Yves Edwards on November 10, 2007 at EliteXC: Renegade. He lost via submission due to rear-naked choke in the first round.[3]
Gonzalez faced David Douglas on February 18, 2011 at Strikeforce Challengers 14. He lost via technical submission in the first round.[4]
Bellator Fighting Championships[edit]
Gonzalez made his promotional debut against Yahir Reyes on April 3, 2009 at Bellator 1 in the quarterfinals of season one featherweight tournament. He lost via submission due to a rear-naked choke in the first round.[5]
Gonzalez faced Luis Palomino on May 8, 2009 at Bellator 6. He lost via TKO in the first round.[6]
Gonzalez was scheduled to face Ryan Couture on September 25, 2015 at Bellator 143. However, Gonzalez weighed in at 172.75 pounds, over sixteen pounds past the lightweight limit, and the fight was cancelled.[7]
Legacy Fighting Championship[edit]
Gonzalez made his Legacy Fighting Championship debut against Ray Blodget on November 16, 2012 at Legacy FC 15. Gonzalez won via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).[8]
Gonzalez faced Kevin Aguilar on February 1, 2013 at Legacy FC 17. Aguilar won via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).[9]
Gonzalez faced WEC and UFC veteran Leonard Garcia on September 13, 2013 at Legacy FC 23. He lost the fight via rear-naked choke submission in the third round.[10]
