Mekhla Dasgupta is an Indian artist whose areas of interest include music comopsition ,production, singing and painting . Born in a small town in West Bengal in India, Dasgupta started her musical journey at an early age, inheriting her musical talent from her mother. Her portfolio of work includes original music albums, playbacks for films, television, web series, and commercial advertisements.

Education[edit]

She completed her graduation with an honors degree in Economics from the University of Calcutta.

Musical Training[edit]

Dasgupta started learning music at the age of 5 under the guidance of Mr. Pintu Das. Over the years, she groomed her passion of music under the tutelage of many exponents of the art like Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Mr. Tushar Dutta, and Mr. Bishwarup Ghoshdastidar. In 2012 she joined ITC Sangeet Research Academy as a disciple of Shree Kumar Mardur.

Awards & Recognition[edit]

Mekhla participated in various musical reality shows like TARANA (E tv) in 2010, ETO SUR AAR ETO GAAN (DD Bangla) in 2013 having received distinction results in all. She participated in Zee Bangla Sa Re Ga Ma Pa in 2016, where she was among the top 5 finalists. She was awarded the All India Radio special prize in Rabindrasangeet in 2016. She received debut female nominations for Mirchi Music and Telly Cine Awards in 2017.

Playback[edit]

She made her playback singing debut with the song Baje Bina composed by the esteemed Music Director Jeet Gannguli for a Tollywood movie Dekh Kemon Lage. She voiced multiple scores directed by Upali Chattopadhyay for a web series, Maan Bhanjan. She has also lent her voice for tv serials like Saat Vai Champa, Rani Rashmoni, Dhrubotara, Kadombini, Trinoyoni, Jaahanara, among others. Her latest playback was (Mon Kyamoner Jonmodin) for the movie Hridpindo, which was composed and written by Ranajoy Bhattacharjee.

Besides playback, Dasgupta has composed singles music, produced, and acted in her independent albums. Some of the most popular singles are Asomoyee Brishti, Jago Jago Maa, Aaj Vabna Gulo Hothat Elomelo.
