Melanie Shiraz Asor (Hebrew: מלאני שירז עשור; born November 13, 1998) is an Israeli-American data scientist, entrepreneur, artist, singer, and beauty queen. She was crowned Miss Universe Israel 2025 and will represent Israel at the Miss Universe 2025 competition in Thailand.[1]
Early life and education
Asor was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, and lived in Ramat Gan until the age of four.[2] She then moved to Miami, Florida, where she attended the Design and Architecture Senior High School, majoring in industrial design.[2]
In 2014, she relocated to Beverly Hills, California, and graduated from Beverly Hills High School.[2] In 2016, she enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied Data Science and Interdisciplinary Studies and minored in Jewish Studies.[2] She was also Vice President of Chabad at Berkeley and actively involved in Jewish community life and Israel advocacy on campus.[2] Asor later returned to Israel and currently lives in Tel Aviv.
Career
Technology and entrepreneurship
In 2020, Asor began working as a data scientist for startups based in the San Francisco Bay Area.[2] In 2021, she began her MBA at the Sofaer Global MBA Program at Tel Aviv University, which she completed in 2022.[2]
In 2022, she joined the Entrepreneur First accelerator in London and co-founded a fintech startup called Underpay.[3] She served as co-CEO and led a successful pre-seed funding round.[4] Asor resigned her directorship in 2024 but remains listed as a co-founder and executive.[4]
Creative work
Asor is also a trained singer and visual artist.[2] She frequently integrates her artistic talents into her public work and advocacy.
Pageantry
Miss Universe Israel 2025
On July 17, 2025, Asor was crowned Miss Universe Israel 2025 at the Hilton Miami Aventura Hotel in Florida, representing Caesarea.[1] She succeeded Ofir Korsia, the outgoing titleholder. The event was hosted by Edgar Entertainment and supported by the Israeli Consulate in Miami.[5]
She competed among 11 finalists and was recognized for her emphasis on social impact, advocacy, and cultural pride. The first runner-up was Danielle Yablonka (Herzliya), and the second runner-up was Adela Cojab (Tel Aviv).[5]
In an interview following her win, Asor stated:
- "I didn’t enter this competition just to wear a crown—I did it because I believe in the power of this platform to create real impact."[6]
She will represent Israel at the Miss Universe 2025 pageant, scheduled to be held on November 21, 2025, in Nonthaburi, Thailand.[1]
Advocacy
Throughout her life, Asor has been involved in pro-Israel and Jewish advocacy efforts, particularly in the diaspora.[2] She emphasizes women’s leadership, innovation, and community engagement as central themes of her public work.
Personal life
Asor is the daughter of Estee Shiraz, an Israeli-American media figure.[2] She is fluent in both Hebrew and English. In addition to her professional accomplishments, she is a singer and artist.[2]
