History[edit]

Originally founded in 1968 in Saint Paul, Minnesota by Kenneth F. Merrill[1], K.F. Merrill Company, as it was originally known, was a typesetting business. In 1984, under new CEO John Castro, the company was given its current name, Merrill Corporation.

Prior to entering the virtual data room (VDR) industry, Merrill operated in the financial printing industry, as well as e-production, electronic filing, custom communications design, and publishing.[2] In 2002, it developed its Datasite platform, a VDR-enabling business to share information during the due diligence process in a secure space.

In 2014, Merrill named Rusty Wiley as its CEO.[3] Under his leadership, the company simplified its business as well as amplified investments in its core Datasite product.[4] In 2018, Merrill completed several divestitures to become a SaaS-based technology company.[5]

Recent Developments[edit]

DatasiteOne[edit]

In 2018[6], Merrill launched its DatasiteOne platform, marking the company's transition to an M&A SaaS-based technology provider. The platform allows clients to share critical information in a secure online environment. DatasiteOne is used by professionals in banking, capital markets, insurance, legal, healthcare, energy and other sectors and markets globally.

Divestitures[edit]

Merrill completed several divestitures in 2018. This included the sale of its transaction and regulatory compliance division to Toppan Leefung Pte. Ltd. in August 2018[7] and its marketing and communications solutions division to a subsidiary of Toppan Vintage in September 2018.[8]

Awards and recognition[edit]

In 2019, Merrill's DatasiteOne platform received multiple Stevie Awards in the 17th Annual American Business Awards. DatasiteOne was awarded two Silver Stevie Awards for Collaboration/Social Networking Solution and Content Management Solution and Bronze Stevie Awards for Cloud Application/Service[9] and Customer Service.[10]

In August 2018, Merrill was recognized as one of the 50 Best Companies to Sell For by Selling Power Magazine.[11]
