History[edit]

MetrixLab was founded in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 1999 by Jan Willem Gerritsen, Han de Groot & Maikel Willems.[3] The company expanded throughout Europe and later executed an acquisition of both CRM Metrix[4] and MarketTools,[5] establishing offices in France, the US, Latin America and Asia.

In 2014, MetrixLab announced a merger with Macromill,[1] Japan’s largest online research provider, and their associated companies which included Dentsu Inc. The new merger, which is operated under the Macromill group brand, was led by former MetrixLab CEO Han De Groot and Japan/Asia CEO Katsumi Konishi.[1] MetrixLab co-founder Jan Willem Gerritsen now acts as Executive Officer, managing the US, European and Latin America businesses. In October 2015, it was announced that Scott Ernst would succeed Han De Groot as Chief Executive Officer.[6]

In 2016, working under the Macromill Brand, MetrixLab operate 27 offices worldwide.[2]

Key Research & Achievements[edit]

Unilever Open Research Platform – In 2016, MetrixLab teamed up with the likes of Unilever, The MRS and other leading organisations, pledging to build an open research platform in order to address global development and sustainability challenges. Its vision is to generate and provide access to insights on global issues, which are intended to help governments, academics and NGOs.[11]

World Malaria Day Survey – In April 2016, MetrixLab teamed up with TTC Mobile to carry out a mobile survey destined for people in malaria hot spots such as Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya. The survey concluded that half the world lives with the threat of malaria every day. The findings from the survey clearly show that there is still work to be done in increasing people’s knowledge of malaria.[12]

College Costs: Kids' Expectations vs. Parents' Ability to Pay - In February 2016, MetrixLab teamed up with T Rowe Price to fulfil their annual Parents, Kids & Money Survey. The research found that 62% of children in the survey agreed with the statement: “I expect my parents to cover the cost of whatever college I want to go to.”, whereas, in reality, just 12% of parents said they would be able to pay the entire cost. The research shows that a great disparity exists between how much children think their parents will contribute to their college education and how much parents are actually able to do so.[13]
