Mhorai (hungarian: [ˈmorɒj]) is a modern death metal band which was founded in 2020, Hungary.
History[edit]
The band was founded in 2020 by guitarist Máté Köteles and vocalist Gergő Floszmann.[1] They had already been playing together in the hungarian-based melodic death metal band Unmuting Absolution.[1][2] However, in 2020 they both decided to part ways with the band and to continue their musical career in a different project. After they both quitted, they started to focus on new musical ideas and they started to record new demos in their home studio. Genres which had been influencing them were mostly modern death metal, deathcore and metalcore.[3][4]
During the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic they recorded their first two singles in their home studio. Mixing and mastering of these songs were done in No Silence Studio (Hungary). After listening the first two records, a good friend of them Tamás Gáspár accepted their invitation to join the band as a bass player. The band released their first single Liberation on January 3, 2021. This was followed by the relase Plain River in February.[5]
First two releases of the band are available only in digital format and can be found on all major online platforms. Both songs were released with their separate lyric videos.[3][6]
Musical style[edit]
Mhorai has been describen as modern death metal, deathcore and metalcore.[7] Vocalist Floszmann performs a mix of growling and screaming. This harsh vocal mix is combined with a technical, melodical guitar playing style of Köteles. Influences of Thy Art is Murder, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying and Fit For An Autopsy can be discovered by their song compositions.[8][5]
