Michael Anthony Subercaseaux (born May 6), known professionally as Michael Caseau (pronounced "Michael Cass-soh"), is an American singer-songwriter, music executive and entrepreneur. Caseau is of direct lineage to the Subercaseaux Family and of French Chilean and Sicilian descent. In 2011, Caseau started gaining recognition as an asset to major music companies and prominent recording artists through building his moniker. He is the chairman and primary executive officer of "The Young 'N Grateful Group, Inc.” (Young ‘N Grateful), a New York-based Music, Media and Advertising company with a sub-set in investments and real-estate management for the company's subsidiary “YNG Capital Partners, LLP.”[3]

Raised in Jamaica Estates, a neighborhood of Queens in New York City, he is the founding member of Young 'N Grateful, a record label with online retail distribution under EMPIRE.[4]The basis for the label's message is an annotation to be grateful for time, life and love.

As of January 6, 2018, Caseau currently holds a total of (11) Billboard No. 1's on the Billboard Charts for Eminem's 2017 release of Revival (Album), charting on Billboard 200, Billboard Top Album Sales, Billboard Artist 100, Billboard Top Rap Albums, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales, Billboard Top Canadian Albums. Also achieving No. 3 on Billboard Canadian Hot 100, No 2. on Billboard Germany Albums Chart and Peaking at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 for his role in discovering, managing and marketing Brooklyn act, Phresher.[5][6]

Early life[edit]

He was born in Stony Brook, New York and grew up in Queens, New York in the Jamaica Estates and Rego Park neighborhoods. Caseau is of the prominent Subercaseaux family and is the great grandson of Ramón Subercaseaux Vicuña.[7][8]

Additionally, he is of Sicilian lineage originating from the town of Vita, Sicilia, ITA within of the province of Trapani.

The Subercaseaux family is of French descent originating from the cities of Dax and Bordeaux, France becoming notable in the Norte Chico region of Chile during the 19th century for their amassed wealth; and significant roles in Chilean mining, winemaking, politics and arts. His great grandfather was a French-born physician, Francisco Subercaseaux Breton and was one of the pioneers of Chile's mining industry. Caseau's biological father, Francisco Jose Subercaseaux was named after Breton as he was the family patriarch.

Michael was raised by his mother, uncle John and grandparents. He grew up in an Italian-American household, associated to the Lucchese crime family, Anthony Casso and Paul Castellano. In 1997, Caseau's uncle was charged with selling crack cocaine with intent to distribute by way of his door-to-door food delivery business. Michael was abandoned by his biological mother in 2007. He was homeless for several years and recalls sleeping in a 7-Eleven bathroom on Northern Boulevard and Utopia Parkway (Queens) in Auburndale, Queens[9][10]

Career[edit]

Starting out as an artist and producer, Michael's inception into music label ownership and the Grateful imprint gave him the ability to distribute and service artists of choice. Operating Young ‘N Grateful with artists Such as Phresher, who most recently featured on Eminem's latest full-length release, Revival (Album). The music and media company have also gained notability for the August 2016 signing of Riff Raff with Ghazi Shami, The President and CEO of Empire to a joint venture and distribution deal to release music under "Neon Nation." Following DJ Afterthought, for the release of "Balloween," Riff's first album after fulfillment to his recording agreement with BMG/Sony. Balloween reached no. 2 on iTunes North American charts.[11][12]

In January 2015, Michael was granted a Distribution deal with Empire.[4] The Empire deal includes the label Young 'N Grateful, Neon Nation, NuLa Ent., and Legacy Publishing Group, Inc. Caseau has since taken on Nikolus Albright and Kris Henry to head the companies business’.

Caked Up[edit]

As of January 29, 2019, “CAKED UP” is officially managed by Caseau and his collective. As assets under management, the collective will handle ass digital, touring and music agreements. [13]

Young ‘N Grateful (Collective)[edit]

As of July 2018, Caseau discontinued the collective effort of “Chase HiFi” to form Young ‘N Grateful, stylized (YOUNG ‘N GRATEFUL) as a collective and music label between him and various producers. The collective consists of Michael Caseau, Michael Skaggs and Oscar Wylde of EDM group, “CVKED UP.” [14]

Riff Raff[edit]

In June 2018, Riff Raff renews distribution deal for two additional releases with Caseau and Empire.

Phresher[edit]

In April 2016, Caseau for Young 'N Grateful started developing and managing Phresher, an up and comer from Brooklyn, New York who earlier in 2015 released music with Desiigner before signing to Kanye West's label, GOOD Music. Creating brand structure and executive work, the single "Wait A Minute" was executive produced and marketed by Caseau, and has since been featured on by RiFF RaFF, and remixed by 50 Cent,[15]Remy MA, [16] Royce Da 5'9</ref>[17]Waka Flocka Flame[18] and various DJ's including DJ Whoo Kid.[19][20] Post inception of Phresher to the Young 'N Grateful imprint, as of December 5, 2017, it was known to the public by way of XXL that Eminem's Revival Album has featured Phresher on Track no. 3. Subsequently, Phresher was the only rapper featured on Revival.[21]

Corey Finesse & NuLa Ent.[edit]

April 14, 2017, Young 'N Grateful signed a venture deal for NuLa Ent., which carries Corey Finesse, Howie Dodat (present) & Marc Mavrick (past) — the joint label is owned and operated by Junior Galette, a linebacker for the Washington Redskins of the NFL.[22][23]

Riff Raff & DJ Afterthought[edit]

In September 2016, Caseau for Young 'N Grateful, LLC., signs Riff Raff and DJ Afterthought. The label released Balloween as their debut under a venture deal for Neon Nation, peaking No. 2 on iTunes for North America and No. 1 on Apple Music's hot tracks.

Chris Webby[edit]

On January 13, 2016, The Queens Emcee executive produced and secured sample clearance for the feature verse of Chris Webby's song entitled "Ignition" featuring Dave East.[24][25]

Manolo Rose[edit]

In August 2015, Caseau started vetting Manolo Rose as an up-and-coming New York rapper. Introducing and coordinating a major music recording and distribution agreement meeting with Aaron Reid, son of Epic Records' CEO & President, LA Reid. Reid and Caseau ultimately decided to not go forth with the signing due to business indifferences with Rose's management and mission. Later, Rose signed an agreement with Warehouse Music Group, with Memphis Bleek under Jay Z's Roc Nation[26][27]
