Michael Yiming Huang[lower-alpha 1] (Chinese Simplified: 迈克尔·易明·洪, born March 18, 1997) is a Chinese-American YouTuber, voice actor and animator who, along side his twin brother Cary Huang, co-created the online web series Battle for Dream Island.[1] He also was known for creating The Scale of the Universe with his brother, an online visualization tool about size.[2][3]
Early life and education
Michael Huang was born on March 18, 1997.[2] He attended Camino Pablo Elementary School located in Moraga, California.[2][4] He then proceeded to go and study film at the University of California Berkeley.[5]
Online career
In 2005, Michael and Cary decided to make a website that would be known as htwins.net. This was simply to host homemade minigames they had made for fun.[6]
In February 2008, Michael would begin uploading on the YouTube channel jacknjellify.[lower-alpha 2][7]
Scale of the Universe
Sometime in 2010, Michael and Cary made an online visualization tool called The Scale of the Universe. It compared the tiniest object to the largest object ever recorded and made into an online tool. The website was featured on NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day in 2018.[8][3] They then later made a sequel to it called The Scale of the Universe 2.[9][10]
Battle for Dream Island
In 2009, Michael and Cary began to work on the show after Cary made a fake catalog with characters in it. Michael was learning digital animation at the time, and said that he wanted to take Cary's characters and animate it.[11][5]
