Michael "Azeu" Kamure (born 26 September 1976) is a Kenyan football manager and former player, who was most recently the head coach of Nairobi Stima.
He currently[when?] works at Football Kenya Federation as the Head of Projects & National Teams. He has also worked as the Team Manager for Harambee Stars, Harambee Starlets, U20 (Boys & Girls), and U17 Boys.
Playing career
Michael Kamure started as a youth player aged 10 at Kenyatta youth team. In 1991, he was selected to join the Nairobi youth team in the squad that represented the country in the Aberdeen International Football Festival in Scotland, where the team finished third. After completing his studies, he moved to the Kenyatta Hospital football team, where he played in midfield with former A.F.C. Leopards assistant coach Nicholas Muyoti and Ulinzi Stars central defender Mulinge Ndeto.[1][2] He moved to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and then to Trust Bank and Postbank FC. He subsequently became a coach.
Coaching career
Kamure started his coaching career as an assistant at his former team Kenyatta Hospital before moving back to KEMRI. In May 2011, Ligi Ndogo Academy director Ibrahim Mbikalo recommended him to be signed on by the club as their head coach.
A holder of several coaching certificates from the Dutch KNVB Academy, CAF C License and a Diploma in Business Administration, Kamure's first match in charge of Ligi Ndogo ended in a 3-2 Nationwide League win over Iron Strikers on 19 May 2011. He led his team to a second-place finish in the 2011 season, unbeaten in the second half of the league and the team's best-ever finish. Several of the squad members were scouted by premier league sides, including Tusker, Sofapaka and Muhoroni. He left Ligi Ndogo in September 2013. On 6 February 2014, it was reported that Kamure joined Nairobi Stima, who were promoted to the newly formed Kenyan National Super League, as an assistant coach ahead of the 2014 season. In January 2015, Kamure was promoted to the position of Head coach at Nairobi Stima F.C. He later joined Zetech University Football Team as the Head Coach before joining Football Kenya Federation as a Logistics Specialist.[3]
