Michele Lynn "Mickey" Catain (born November 6, 1953)[1] is an American crew member and real estate agent. She is best known for Welcome Back, Kotter (1978–1979), The Next Karate Kid (1994) and Diagnosis: Murder (1999–2001). She is based in the Las Vegas, Nevada area.

Early life[edit]

Michele Lynn Catain was born in Los Angeles, California on November 6, 1953,[2][1] as the elder of two children to Jack Catain Jr. (1930–1987),[3][4][5][6] a businessman and convicted criminal[7] who was a central figure in the biggest American stock-market scandal of the 1980s,[8] and Marlene Catain (née Noble; 1934–2014),[9][10][11] a women's apparel sales associate.[12] Her mother was Jewish.[13] Her younger brother is Michael Catain (born 1956),[14][15][16] a businessman and convicted criminal.[17][18] Her paternal relations came from Italian ancestry.[19]


Catain attended Birmingham High School, a charter coeducational secondary school, in San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles County, California.[20]

Career[edit]

Catain made her career debut on September 11, 1978. She served on the casting department for the fourth season of the ABC sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter.[21]

Catain worked as a production assistant on the children's music sing-along Kidsongs: The Wonderful World of Sport in March 1987.[21]

Catain worked as a production coordinator: Usa on the film Blink of an Eye on July 24, 1992.[21]

Catain worked as production secretary on the martial arts drama film The Next Karate Kid on August 12, 1994.[21]

Catain worked as a production executive on the seventh and eighth season of the CBS comedy-mystery-medical crime drama television series Diagnosis: Murder between September 19, 1999 and November 23, 2001. She then worked on two television movies from the franchise; Town Without Pity on February 6, 2002 and Without Warning on April 26, 2002.[21]

Catain worked on episodes two, three and four of the UPN drama television series The Beat on March 28, April 4, and April 11, 2000.[21]

Catain was credited as Michele Durboraw throughout her career as a crew member.[21]

As a real estate agent[edit]

Catain works as a real estate agent in the Las Vegas, Nevada area.[22][23] She has worked as a real estate agent since, at least, 2015.[24] She is the property manager at ERA Brokers.[25][26] She is known by her maiden name, professionally.[27]

Personal life[edit]

Catain resides in Henderson, Nevada. She is also known as Mickey Catain.[20]

Marriage, children and family[edit]

Catain married David Thomas Durboraw (born June 4, 1951),[28][29] a businessman, in Los Angeles, California on February 17, 1974.[30] Their only child, Todd Alyn Durboraw, a former actor and crew member,[31][32][33][34] was born on April 28, 1976.[35][36] The couple later separated. Their divorce was finalized on October 3, 1979.[37] She has four grandchildren.[38]

Catain's parents divorced when she was 26-years-old.[39] Her father married Kathleen Richards (1938–2002), a casting director, on July 4, 1980.[40][41] Richards was her stepmother, briefly.[42] She gained three stepsisters from her father's second marriage; Kathy Hilton (born 1959),[43][44][45] Kim Richards (born 1964)[46] and Kyle Richards (born 1969),[47][48] actresses.[49] Her father and stepmother were divorced on March 16, 1982.[50] She once spent a weekend with her stepmother while her stepmother's granddaughter, Paris Hilton (born 1981), then a teenager, was visiting, she recalled: "Paris was such a snot. Sweet, really, to see three generations of women sharing the same interests."[51] Her father married Phyllis Sherwood (born May 12, 1935),[52][53][54] a performer, singer and actress, on May 1, 1983.[55] She gained two grown stepbrothers from her father's third marriage; Michael Sherwood (1959–2019)[56] and Billy Sherwood (born 1965),[57] musicians.[58] She has remained in contact with her stepmother since her father's death.[59] She also remained in contact with her stepbrother Michael until his death.[60] Her mother, Marlene Katz, died from cancer in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 29, 2014. She was 80.[10] Her mother married Byron Ellis "Al" Katz[61] (1928–2019),[62] a businessman, in 1986. Katz was her stepfather.[11][63] She gained two grown stepsisters from her mother's second marriage.[62]
