Cork native Michelle Darmody is an Irish food writer and entrepreneur living in Dublin[1] Michelle Darmody is the founder of Our Table [2] A pioneer in the new-wave Irish food movement, Michelle Darmody opened the doors of The Cake Cafe in 2006 [3] and founded Slice in 2012 [4] Darmody wrote The Cake Café Bake Book in 2012 [5] the forward to the book was written by David O'Doherty, and it is distributed internationally by Thames and Hudson [6]

Michelle Darmody was named one of a dozen chefs to watch out for in 2015[7]

In conjunction to running food businesses Darmody has been involved in many activist projects in Dublin. She was one of the organising team who created Alternative Miss Ireland along with Tonie Walsh, Rory O'Neill, Niall Sweeney[8] and Trish Brennan. Darmody was nominated as an Ashoka Change Maker in 2017 for her work on Our Table [9]

Darmody studied a degree in Fine Art in Crawford College of Art and Design Cork Institute of Technology and a masters in National College of Art and Design. Member of the Irish Food Writers Guild [10], member of Euro-Toques [11] and also a member of Slow Food. Michelle Darmody has advocated for the use of local and seasonal ingredients in food preparation. She has been involved in food educational events in local schools promoting healthy eating.
