Emiliano Rodolfo Rosales-Birou (born April 8, 1990), known as Emile Rosales[1] and best known as Chuggaaconroy, is an American internet personality, YouTuber and prominent Let's Player.[1][2][3] He is a founding member of TheRunawayGuys, a collaborative Let's Play YouTube channel, along with fellow Let's Players ProtonJon and NintendoCapriSun.

Personal life[edit]

Rosales is a native of Phoenix, Arizona. He has stated that he grew up in both Arizona and Florida. In 2012, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia. He has also mentioned that he lived in Florida at some time.

In adolescence, Rosales developed a fear of roller coasters after Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain derailing that killed two people aboard the train, claiming to have been on the attraction earlier in the day, and that he had planned to ride it again.[4] He has mentioned in videos that he struggled with family and financial issues during his childhood, as well as with autism.[5] For a short period of time, he believed he was misdiagnosed.[6] However, he later backed down from that statement, having no evidence to disprove it.[7] He has spoken many times of not having a healthy relationship with his father, citing drug use, alcoholism, and neglectfulness.[8]

Rosales later founded the collaborative Let's Play channel TheRunawayGuys, consisting mainly of himself, Jonathan "ProtonJon" Wheeler, and Timothy "'NintendoCapriSun" Bishop (with additional guest appearances from other YouTubers).[9] The trio later celebrated the channel's 10-year anniversary with a Twitch livestream featuring many of the channel's collaborators on February 5, 2021.[10]

Rosales is friends with fellow content creators Stephen Georg, and his wife, Mallory Georg. Stephen currently serves as his graphic designer. Rosales has known Stephen since he was 14 years old, when the two met on the video game fansite, Starmen.net.[11] In the midst of Hurricane Florence in September 2018, Rosales invited Stephen, Mallory and Stephen's parents to stay with him as they rode out the storm.[12] Rosales and the Georg's hold a yearly gift exchange alongside their friend and fellow Let's Player MasaeAnela; in these exchanges Rosales is known for being extremely generous.[13]

YouTube career[edit]

Rosales joined YouTube just a year after the site was founded, on July 26, 2006 at the age of 16 as "Chuggaaconroy",[14] a name he has used as an online pseudonym since he was a child.[3]

On March 26, 2008, he began posting his Let's Play of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System RPG EarthBound. He has since produced 44 solo Let's Plays, and his content has been cited as a family-friendly alternative to more vulgar Let's Players, as well as being cited as one of the most influential.[15] In an interview with Wired, it was claimed that whenever he would curse he would receive "concerned letters from the parents of younger viewers."[1]

Early in his video-making career, Rosales notoriously neglected revealing his face (with the exception of update vlogs early in his channel's history, which were removed) until TheSpeedGamers' 2010 charity stream, in which he removed the silver mask he wore as a donation-incentive.[16]

In July 2010, Rosales' account was suspended under false copyright claims, though it was restored in late August.[17]
