Midnight Shift Records is a record label and events organisation established in 2009 and based out of Singapore and Berlin. The label specializes in Techno and House music from both emerging and established producers and has been recognized by Mixmag Asia[1] and Pulse Radio as a label to note out of Asia and one of Southeast Asia's top labels.[2][3]
The label's first EP, The First Shift was released in October 2012, featuring artists Basic Soul Unit from Toronto and Eddie Niguel from Singapore.[4] To date, the label has a catalogue of over 40 releases on both digital and vinyl formats,[5] and a roster that includes Ultrademon, Terrence Parker, and KiNK.
Events
Of the same name are the Midnight Shift Events, a series of electronic music parties that began with headline acts kept as a mystery with clues given out to members, held at venues such as Helipad, Velvet Underground-Dance (Zouk) and kyo.[6] In September 2012, Midnight Shift organized its first label showcase at the Decibel Festival in Seattle, Washington with label artists Basic Soul Unit, Norman Chung, Terrence Parker and headliner Oxia.
In 2012, Midnight Shift began its collaboration with fellow Singaporean label Darker Than Wax to organise a series of events titled DMZ held at Velvet Underground-Dance. Featuring darker, deeper house music and a dystopian aesthetic, the quarterly event has seen guests Basic Soul Unit, Iron Curtis,[7] and Mike Huckaby.
Since 2009, Midnight Shift has debuted the performance of artists such as Recondite, Redshape, Rivet, Tapirus, and John Heckle to Singapore. In 2016, Midnight Shift established a presence in Berlin, bringing it closer to the European club scene.
