Mike Jarosz (born April 1, 1977) is an American trumpet player, arranger, music director and inventor from Haddon Township, New Jersey, United States. He has performed with Maynard Ferguson,[1] LL Cool J,[2] Los Lonely Boys,[3] Clay Aiken,[4] Frankie Valli,[5] Donna Summer and Wayne Newton. He has recorded for LL Cool J,[6] Beyonce, Celine Dion, Patti Labelle,[7] Will Smith, Jennifer Lopez and R. Kelly. He is the inventor of Soulo Mute[8] for trumpet and trombone and the Music Director for the Philadelphia based horn band, "All About Me”.
Early life[edit]
During Mike's sophomore year in high school, he was asked by his band director to play the 5th trumpet spot with a local band of professional musicians named Reed's Rhythm & All That Brass. It was this opportunity of performing with professional musicians, that he decided to pursue music further. As a junior in high school, Mike auditioned for and was selected as one of three trumpet players to attend the New Jersey Governor's School. After high school, he attended The College of New Jersey where studied with jazz trumpeter George Rabbai, director of the college jazz band. George introduced Mike to lead trumpet player Roger Ingram, who had performed as a guest artist with the band during Mike's first year there. After hearing Roger Ingram perform with the jazz band, Mike began to study with Roger Ingram for two years, until eventually transferring to the University of The Arts in Philadelphia. He graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor's degree in Trumpet Performance and with a Master's degree in Jazz Studies in 2001.
Career[edit]
Soon after college graduation, Mike went on tour with Maynard Ferguson and his Big Bop Nouveau band, as the bands 2nd trumpet player.[9] In December 2004, Mike was hired as the horn section leader, trumpet player, horn arranger and string arranger for the house band at the "TSOP" (The Sound of Philadelphia) venue at the Tropicana in Atlantic City, NJ. The band performed two shows nightly, 7 days a week. In 2005, he was selected as one of five trumpet players nationally to attend the Henry Mancini Institute in Los Angeles, CA.
In 2006, Mike performed with rapper LL Cool J at the Essence Festival in Texas as well as the Oxygen Custom Concert in New York City. In that same year, Mike was hired as the lead trumpet player, horn arranger and string arranger for the Sony release of "Love Train: The Sound of Philadelphia Live In Concert", filmed at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. For this video taping, Mike arranged horns and strings on the songs “I’ll Always Love My Mama”, “Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now”, “Rubberband Man”, “Enjoy Yourself”, and “Workin’ My Way Back to You Babe” and shared the stage with The O’Jays, Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes, The Delfonics, The Intruders, Jerry Butler, Three Degrees, The Soul Survivors and G.C. Cameron. Shortly after, Mike performed at the Farm Aid concert in Camden, NJ with Los Lonely Boys and Willie Nelson.
While recording at "The Studio" in Philadelphia PA, Mike crossed paths with the studio owner, producer, arranger and cellist, Larry Gold, who hired Mike to work as a studio trumpet player, copyist and music arranger. Mike arranged horns and strings on four tracks and performed trumpet on eight tracks of LL Cool J's album "Exit 13".[10] In addition, Mike contracted musicians from his horn band "All About Me" to perform on this album. During his tenure at "The Studio" Mike orchestrated and arranged "My Man" (from the Broadway musical Funny Girl) for Jennifer Lopez. This arrangement was recorded and used as a backing track for Lopez to sing along to, as a surprise for Marc Anthony's 40th birthday party.[11]
His other credits at "The Studio" include playing trumpet on Celine Dion's "That's Just The Woman In Me" on the album "Taking Chances"; Mike’s trumpet playing can also be heard on the backing track used in Celine Dion’s 2008 CBS special featuring this song. Beyonce's "A Woman Like Me" from the 2006 Pink Panther Soundtrack; R. Kelly's "Weatherman" and "If I" tracks from the album "Happy People”; Will Smith's "Here He Comes" from the album "Lost & Found"; Patti Labelle's "The Truth Will Set You Free" from the album "Back to Now"; Ricky Fante's "Shine" from the "Robots"[12] movie soundtrack; James Morrison's album "Songs for You, Truths For Me".[13]
In collaboration with Larry Gold Mike co-arranged music for Justin Timberlake's "Dead & Gone" live performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards; John Legend's song "Wake Up" and "This Time"[14] on the album "Evolver" and Kayne West's song "Flashing Lights" on the album "Graduation”.
In 2009 Mike began performing with Franki Valli & The Four Seasons where he continues to perform as a sideman at venues along the East Coast. Mike's exposure to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons led to him joining "The Midtown Men", the original cast of Jersey Boys, to tour the US and Canada. Also in 2009 Mike had the honor to perform at Aretha Franklin's 67th birthday party at Seldom Blues in Detroit.
Amidst performances and recording sessions, Mike invented a new mute for trumpet and trombone called Soulo Mute. In 2010 he was granted a patent, (D614229) by the United States Patent & Trademark Office. The mute was debuted in the orchestra of the 83rd Academy Awards[15] and is sold in stores worldwide.

Michael is married to Elena Jarosz and has two daughters Sofia and Kalina. They reside in Haddon Township, NJ.
