Mikee Plastik

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Mikee Plastik is an American composer, musician,[1][2]historian, journalist, and award-winning TV producer.

Biography[edit]

Mikee Plastik was born Michael Scott Hollash in Tampa, FL, on November 9, 1976. Plastik is known for his work in the music industry, as well as the film and TV industries. He is also known for his journalism and historical research work done under his biological name.

Music[edit]

Mikee Plastik has worked with several bands over the span of two decades, but the bands he is most known for are Grim Faeries and MEDIAWHORE.

Early on, Plastik had a couple of his tracks released worldwide on compilation albums released through Cleopatra Records. [3][4]

In the winter of 1998, Curse Mackey (Evil Mothers, Pigface) approached Plastik to help start the band Grim Faeries, which also featured Mackey's then-wife Christina Petro aka Xtina X (My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult), who was a former touring stage dancer for U2.[5] They quickly became known through their work on the legendary MMORPG PC gaming franchise Ultima Online, when they were contracted by Origin Systems to provide a reworked version of their single, "Love Is Hell", for the developing game Ultima Online 2.[6] The official game trailer, which featured "Love Is Hell", was first released on a promotional DVD sampler in the June 2000 issue of PC Gamer (magazine), giving the game's subscribing fan base their first glimpse of the game. A second trailer was produced as Ultima Online 2 progressed in development, which was backed by a remix of another Grim Faeries track, "Faerie Raide", that also included Plastik's guitar work. Mat Mitchell, who would go on to become a central member of Maynard James Keenan's band Puscifer, produced both of the Grim Faeries mixes for the game.

In the Fall of 1999, after an engagement opening for Marky Ramone (of the Ramones) and The Intruders with his side project The Infamous Plastic People, Plastik was approached to join The Intruders on guitar and vocal duties for the band's South American and Eastern European tour legs, which had to be turned down due to conflicting dates with a short co-headlining tour Grim Faeries already had booked with Skatenigs.

Albums[edit]

The first release by Grim Faeries was a 4 song EP, released in 2000, which Plastik did all of the guitar tracking for.

In 2001, Grim Faeries released what would become the band's only full-length album, "The Disenchanted Forest". Plastik's work was only featured on one quarter of the album, as he had parted ways from the group not long after the recording sessions began.

Grim Faeries were featured on several compilation albums, many of which Plastik tracked the guitar parts for. The compilation albums were released by Cleopatra Records, Invisible Records with distribution through Caroline Records, as well as a couple of independent labels.

Around 2007, Plastik signed a deal with Pennsylvania record label Toxic Shock Records to release the MEDIAWHORE full-length album, "Hello, My Name Is MEDIAWHORE". The album was comprised of half studio tracks and half remixes of the studio tracks. Jim Walker (COG, Push Button Press), Chuck Lenihan (Crumbsuckers, Genitorturers, Christian Death), and Pete Jones (Public Image Limited, Department S) worked with Plastik on the album. The artists Plastik brought in for the remixes were equally eclectic, such as Pete Jones, Kommunity FK, Lab Report, Christian Menses (Psychotica), Mind Static, Motor Mark, and Brian Tutunick (Marilyn Manson, Collapsing Lungs).

Plastik had also released MEDIAWHORE tracks through Toxic Shock Records for two compilation albums, a compilation album produced in Russia, a limited edition compilation album release by WMNF 88.5 FM's Dark Horizons (Tampa Bay), as well as a Cleopatra Records compilation release.

Collaborations[edit]

Mikee Plastik has recorded with, or remixed, various bands and recording artists on their material, such as Electro Shock Therapy (featuring former long-time Marilyn Manson drummer Sara Lee Lucas), Hate Dept.,[7] Pete Jones (Public Image Limited / Department S),[8] Lab Report, Penal Colony, Pigface, Psychotica,[9] Andi Sex Gang, Team Cybergeist,[10] When In Rome, and several others. Plastik and Pete Jones were brought in and collaborated together remixing and producing two tracks on the Patrick Briggs (Psychotica) debut solo album "Pervert".[11][12]

Plastik was working in the studio with his good friend, actor Brooke McCarter (Thrashin, Lost Boys), on McCarter's live show material, just prior to the actor's death.

Mikee Plastik has been discussed within, or has contributed to, a handful of published music books, including Grammy artist Martin Atkins' (Public Image Limited, Killing Joke, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Pigface) music industry book, "BandSmart", which Plastik contributed written insight for. Also, Pete Jones discussed his collaborations with Plastik in his autobiographical book, "They Call Me... Joyless".

Film and TV[edit]

In 2012, Plastik predominantly walked away from the music industry to place his primary focus on film and TV underscoring.

Plastik composed underscore for the cult halloween horror feature film, Halloween at Aunt Ethel's, which screened at the Cannes Film Festival prior to picking up theatrical distribution in select countries. It later picked up streaming distribution through Amazon Prime, and it has made Amazon's list for top films to stream on halloween.

Plastik was featured (under his biological name) in the award-winning docu-series, Built on Graves, which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.

Under his biological name (Michael Scott Hollash), Plastik began writing freelance op-ed articles in 2002, which mostly focused on political and social issues. Through doing this, he had pieces published in the Brandon News, Gawker, Osprey Observer, Smoke Signals, South Shore News, St. Petersburg Times (now Tampa Bay Times), and the Tampa Tribune. In 2016, he was briefly employed by former GOP Presidential candidate and NEWSMAX TV commentator, Dennis Michael Lynch, writing hard news articles for Lynch's DML Report.

In the Fall of 2016, Plastik (under his biological name) started his own media platform, The Reform Report. The predominant focus is commentary on geopolitical issues, as well as true crime and military history. His series, Voices From Cosa Nostra, is the longest-running mafia interview series currently produced on YouTube. His extensive research and interviews on the topic of the Italian mafia brought him to the attention of the producers of the successful award-winning National Geographic TV docu-series, Narco Wars. He was brought onto the production team for season 2 - Associate Producing episode 1 of season 2, "The Heroin Don", and stayed onboard the series for season 3 - Associate Producing episode 3, "The Mob and The Mujahideen". Season 3 of Narco Wars, titled "Chasing The Dragon", was nominated for, and won, the Buzzies Award in the category of Best History Long Format (TV) at the 2022 World Congress of Science and Factual Producers (WCSFP) in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Plastik also consults for other true crime TV projects, as well as contributes to books and other publications on the topic.

Visual Art[edit]

A few of Mikee Plastik's paintings were incorporated into the interior decor of the former popular downtown Tampa clothing boutique, Ultra.

Plastik's visual art work has been displayed around the globe, alongside the works of Clive Barker, HR Giger, Mark Ryden, Ozzy Osbourne, and others, as a featured artist in the Fuse Gallery of NYC's DRAW touring exhibit,[13][14] which opened at the 2007 SXSW Music, Film + Interactive Festival in Austin, TX. Aside from New York City and Austin, the exhibit had also made stops in London, San Francisco, and Mexico City.
