Milos Lujic (born 15 February 1990) is an Australian footballer who plays for South Melbourne FC in the National Premier Leagues Victoria. He is the son of former Socceroo Zdravko Lujic.

Career[edit]

Early career[edit]

Milos quickly developed as a footballer and played his first senior match with Bentleigh Greens in 2006. Impressive form for Bentleigh led Milos to be signed to the Australian Institute of Sport Football Program, then competing in the Victorian Premier League, where Milos continued a Senior football career despite his young age. Lujic was selected for Melbourne Victory's inaugural Youth squad in 2008 and despite struggling to see match game time earned starts with the Young Socceroos before an injury at international level put his career on hold.

After returning from injury Milos signed for Oakleigh before moving to Richmond where he participated in the club's first ever Premiership in the Victorian Premier League. The club's success made it tough for young Milos to break into Richmond's winning squad and at the conclusion of the 2010 season Milos signed for his former junior club Springvale White Eagles. Unfortunately the 2011 season at Spingvale proved unsuccessful for Milos where he struggled to score and the club struggled for results.[1]

Northcote[edit]

In 2012 Milos Lujic was signed to Northcote City FC and made an instant impact. In his first season Milos scored 7 goals in 18 matches and helping Northcote make the finals.[2]

Milos followed up his impressive first season at Northcote by winning the 2013 Vicotrian Premier League Golden Boot after scoring 18 goals in only 24 starts during the regular season.[3] The tally helped Northcote finish top of the table [4] and go onto win their first State Championship.[5]

His sensational form for Northcote saw Milos sign an injury replacement contract with Wellington Phoenix. Milos did not find any game time with the A-League side during this short term deal.[6]

South Melbourne[edit]

South Melbourne's new coach Chris Taylor was quick to sign Milos at the start of the inaugural NPLV season. The signing proved successful for both club and the striker with Milos going on to win his second Golden Boot at the top state level and the team going onto win the league by seven points ahead of their nearest rival.[7]

In his second season at South Melbourne Lujic continued his impressive form winning a third consecutive Golden Boot at the top state level and helping to guiding South Melbourne to a top of the table finish for the 2015 season.[8] Late in the season Milos scored a hat-trick against Avondale FC, helping him reach an astounding 50 goals for South Melbourne in all competitions after only two seasons and 63 games.[9] Unfortunately Lujic's heroics throughout the season couldn't secure a second consecutive Championship for South Melbourne. Bentleigh Greens overcame an equalising goal from Milos and defeated South Melbourne 3-1 in extra time of the NPL Victoria Grand Final.[10]

International[edit]

Milos earned a call up to the Young Socceroos for the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Youth Championship in Thailand after strong performances with the Australian Institute of Sport and the Melbourne Victory Youth squad.[11]

Lujic continued representing the Young Socceroos at U-20 level. He represented Australia at all qualifying matches for the 2009 U-20 World Cup scoring an impressive 6 goals over the 13 matches. Unfortunately due to a back injury suffered in the qualifiers Lujic was prevented from playing with Australia's U-20 World Cup squad.[12]
