History[edit]

Mindful Education was set up in 2015 by Mark Mckenna, Managing Director. Other founding team members were Raj Kumaran, Michael Verhaag and Rob Slegtenhorst. Employing academics, film makers, creative and digital staff, the company created its first course in 2015-16 and has since developed a wide range of professional courses and apprenticeships. In 2020 Mindful Education employs over 40 members of staff, based at their offices in Soho, London.

Partnerships with Colleges[edit]

Mindful Education works in partnership with further education colleges to deliver its courses and apprenticeships on a blended learning basis (They call this approach Online and On Campus). Blended learning provides a solution to one of the biggest barriers facing adult learners – a perceived lack of flexibility in education study options, as identified in the Department for Business Innovation and Skills research paper where 70% of survey participants considered information on flexibility important in their decision-making process.[1] The company’s first partnerships were with Tresham College and Cardiff & Vale College in 2016. Growth has been rapid and in 2020 the company lists over 30 college partners.

Courses and Apprenticeships[edit]

Mindful Education invests heavily in producing high quality online learning resources. The company estimates that over 10,000 staff hours are invested in producing every course they make. The current course and Apprenticeship portfolio includes AAT Accounting at levels 2, 3 and 4, Bookkeeping at Level 2 and 3, CMI Management at levels 3 and 5 and CILEx Law level 3 certificate and diploma. Qualifications are delivered in partnership with colleges, either as part-time courses for adult learners or as part of an apprenticeship.

Awards[edit]

The company has won several high-profile industry and sector awards:

2018: The Learning Awards, Gold Winner, Start-up Learning Provider of the Year[2]

2018: Selected as a member of the EdTech Top 50 companies[3]
