Mine is a privately held software company, providing a smart data assistant that connects consumers and companies around data privacy rights.[1] Users of the AI-based product can discover and manage their personal data online,[2] and companies can use it to automatically process their "Right-To-Be-Forgotten" requests.[3][4]
Mine is based in Tel Aviv and has raised a total of $12.5M.[5][6]
History[edit]
In May 2018, the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) codified right-to-be-forgotten protections into law. This was followed in January 2020 by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), which similarly requires that people be able to access and delete certain data.[7] Mine was founded in 2018 to help consumers enforce these rights on the internet without changing their habits.[8]
Mine was founded by Gal Ringel (CEO), Gal Golan (CTO) and Kobi Nissan (CPO). Ringel and Golan are both veterans of Unit 8200, the cybersecurity unit of the Israeli Defense Forces.[9]
As of March 2022, the company helped more than 350,000 people to send 1.3 million data deletion requests.[10]
The product[edit]
Mine uses machine learning to find the companies that Hold the users' data.[11][12][13][14] Users are then presented with a list of corporations which currently hold their personal information,[15] and can then send them a data deletion request with the click of a button[16] using Mine's platform.[17]
Mine found that its average user is in the databases of 350 businesses,[18][19] 80% of which the user interacted with just once.[20][21]
Critical Response[edit]
David Hoffman, Global Privacy Officer at Intel, said Mine was solving "one of the most urgent issues in privacy".[16]
Mine was awarded as the seventh most promising startup in the UK by TechRound.[22]
