Minecraft: China Edition
Minecraft: China Edition (Chinese: 我的世界; literally: 'My World') is a localization of the video game Minecraft for China developed by Microsoft and NetEase.
Development
Due to laws surrounding video game publication in China, Microsoft was not able to acquire the rights to publish Minecraft in the country. In 2016, they announced a "five-year exclusive partnership" with NetEase, a company that had previously partnered with Blizzard Entertainment on publishing various games in China.[1][2][3] Minecraft: China Edition was released in August 2017, and the game had been downloaded 30 million times by October of that year.[4] In 2018, the game had been downloaded 100 million times.[5]
NetEase has the right to enforce intellectual property claims regarding Minecraft in China, and in 2022 won over $7 million in a copyright infringement lawsuit against Shenzhen Mini Play Company.[6]
