Miramar City Hall is the seat of government for the city of Miramar, Florida, United States, located at 2300 Civic Center Place within the Miramar Town Center civic complex.[1][2] The building houses the offices of the Miramar City Commission, the City Manager, and several municipal departments, and contains the Commission Chambers where regular Commission meetings are held.[1][3]
History
In March 2000, the City of Miramar purchased a 54-acre parcel north of Miramar Parkway, east of Red Road, west of Hiatus Road, and south of Miramar Boulevard, with the intention of developing a mixed-use civic and commercial district.[4][5] The city subsequently secured the development entitlements needed to build what became known as the Miramar Town Center, envisioned as a traditional downtown combining the new City Hall with a public library, a cultural center and arts park, and an educational center, along with retail, office, and residential components.[4][6]
The city broke ground on the Town Center project in December 2002, and vertical construction of the 87,000-square-foot City Hall building began in May 2003.[4][7] The building reached substantial completion in August 2004, followed by a phased move-in of city departments.[4]
Architecture
City Hall was built in a Mediterranean-style design consistent with the broader Miramar Town Center master plan, which called for architecture evoking historic Florida towns, including tile roofing, arcades, and pedestrian-oriented streetscapes.[6][5] The building sits within a landscaped civic complex that includes fountains and adjoins the Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark and the city's public library.[5][8]
Departments
City Hall houses Miramar's general government offices along with the Planning, Zoning, Building, and Engineering departments.[7] The building's Commission Chambers hosts regular meetings of the Miramar City Commission as well as public hearings before city advisory boards.[1][3]
