Miss PNG Quest or Miss Papua New Guinea Quest is the biggest national beauty pageant for women in Papua New Guinea.
History[edit]
The Miss PNG Quest is the annual fundraising drive for the Papua New Guinea Red Cross Society. The beauty pageant has been running for over 30 years since 1974. The success of this event lies heavily on the involvement and support of individuals, business houses and government bodies.[1]
The Papua New Guinea Red Cross Society was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in March, 1976. This Act provided the Society with certain mandates to provide community and humanitarian services to people in great need of help after their normal lives have been affected by certain disasters.[2][3]
These mandates provided for the provision of:
- Furnishing of aid to the sick and wounded, irrespective of nationality;
- Rendering of assistance to victims in any public disaster or needs; and
- Improvement of health, prevention of diseases, and mitigation of suffering.
International franchises[edit]
Papua New Guinea was participated at Miss Universe in 1975 - 1986, Miss World in 1977 - 1990, Miss Asia Pacific International in 1975 - 2000 and Miss South Pacific 1996 - 2011.
