Mostafizur Rahman known as Mithun Mostafiz, is a Bangladeshi scholar, folklorist, and media specialist. He has served as Vice President of the International Consortium for Social Development (ICSD) since 14 October 2020.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]

Early life and Education

Mithun Mostafiz was born in Sirajganj on 1st July 1983 to Dr. Md. Azizur Rahman and Begum Monoara Aziz. After completing primary, secondary, and higher secondary education at Sirajganj, he graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) and Master of Social Science (MSS) in Social Work from Rajshahi University. He attained a Post Graduate Diploma in Disaster Management from Dhaka University.[1][2]Later, he earned a Master of Philosophy from Islamic University, Kushtia, Bangladesh. Mithun was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in ethno-cultural studies by the same institution in 2018.[11]

Career

Mithun Mostafiz began his career in journalism. He was Consultant, News and Current Affairs, and Assignment Editor & Senior News Anchor of Boishakhi Television, Dhaka, Bangladesh.[12][13][1]

The journalist turned an academic in 2018. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Department of Folklore Studies at Islamic University, Kushtia. He is also Visiting Professor, Academic Advisor, and Ph.D. Research Supervisor of Noble International University-NIU (USA).[1][14][11]

He is a Member of the United Nations Journalists Inter-Governmental Organization- UNJIGO.[1][15]

Mithun Mostafiz is an activist of the Awami League.[16][17][18]

Awards

  • Honored by the City of Paterson in New Jersey, USA in 2016 for ‘Outstanding Contribution to the International media through reporting against terrorism, militancy, and religious extremism'.[19][20]

Death threats

Mostafizs has many times been threatened to death for his professional and political reasons.[26][27][28][29][30] In 27 March 2016 he was attacked by miscreants on duty while he along with his subordinate journos at Khulshi in Chittagong.[31] [32][12][33][34] Some organizations including IFJ and BFUJ condemn the threats and attacks.[35]

Defamation attempt

In February 2019 some unnamed obsolete websites like cnnbangla, starbdnews24.com campaign defamatory news.[36] And anonymous groups circulated offensive leaflets against him at Islamic University campus in winter closure to defame him.[37][38] Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist and Dhaka Union of Journalist condemned these defamatory efforts against him.[39]
