Mittir Masi (born on 2 December, 1970) is a Bengali social activist and lady detective. Her real name is Debashree Mittir.

Early life

Mittir Masi hails from Diamond Harbour, South 24 Parganas. She was born in Kolkata, in the Indian state of West Bengal. Her father was a top-ranked employee of the Government of West Bengal. Since her childhood, Mittir Masi was a rebellious student having extraordinary detection power. Her father was deprived and cornered by the then Left Front Government in his service life. During the Partition of India, Mittir Masi's family shrine was desecrated by the descendants of Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni. These incidents made her anti-leftist as well as a nationalist pro Hindutvavadi.

Social activities

While she lived in Kolkata, she took active part in the feminist movement with another facebook activist Ameesha Sarkar and the Safety Pin group. She raised her shrill voice in various social networking sites for the justice of Hindu rape victims in India, especially in Maharashtra, and left many deafened. In Mumbai, Mittir Masi participated in the anti-corruption movement of Anna Hazare and was arrested. She also faced serious Lathi charge bravely in 2011 Indian anti-corruption movement and laughed at the face of atrocities.[1] By her extraordinary detection power, she is able to identify Muslim Coronavirus-affected persons in Mumbai and Pune city and call for their execution to eradicate the deadly virus. At the time of the COVID-19 pandemic in India, she personally helped numerous Bengali migrant labourers and fought for them, and pursued the Government of Maharashtra to send them back to their home state via registered post.[2] She supports Jauharbrata as a part of the empowerment of women.

Investigation

Mittir Masi often helps Mumbai Police to track down culprits and offenders against women.[3] It is stated that Bengali writer Suchitra Bhattacharya created the famous fictional character Mitin Masi on the basis of the life of Mittir Masi.[4][5][6] Her lockdown diary is to be published by Koushik Dutta Laltu in the upcoming Kolkata Book Fair, 2021.[7] Mittir Masi's adventures were regularly published in Anindya Bazar Patrika in 2018–20.
