Mike Smith, stylized MKSMTH, (born June 17, 1994) is an American musician, record producer, writer and DJ. MKSMTH is an open format DJ, specializing in electronic dance music (EDM).[1] He has collaborated with Multi-Platinum artists DJ Snake, G-Eazy, French Montana, Lil Jon, Kaskade, YG, Logic, and Yo Gotti and has produced for Bay-Area Icons such as P-Lo, Los Rakas, Rexx Life Raj, Iamsu!, Jay Ant and Zion I.[2][3]

Music career[edit]

2010-2013[edit]

In 2010, MKSMTH joined League 510 as the group's DJ, producer and writer. Four months later, they signed with Clear Label, founded by Tajai Massey of the Oakland underground hip hop collective, Hieroglyphics. League 510 released 4 EPs and went on their first tour, “The Winter Ball”. In 2010, MKSMTH appeared in a nation-wide McDonald’s McCafé campaign, where he played the role of the DJ. In 2011, MTV premiered League 510’s first single, “I’m On”, which was off of their “Invasion” EP. MKSMTH left the group shortly after to embark on his solo journey of producing electronic dance music.

In 2013, MKSMTH promoted his first live event, "Skumfest", which saw an interesting success. He started the campaign only 24 hours before the event and ended up generating over 3500 reservations, but could only accommodate 750 people into the venue. The event’s success was credited to a simple and organic concept. In an underground viral fashion, he used the hashtag #Skumfest13, solely through Instagram.

2014-2016[edit]

In 2014, he opened for International House sensation, Kaskade, in Oakland CA. In 2014, he did an official remix with New Orleans legend, Big Freedia. Later that year, Mike formed the collective, A.N.G.O.R. Republic. He was then commissioned to do two official remixes for G-Eazy titled "Far Alone", featuring Jay Ant and "I Might", featuring P-Lo. He also produced various unofficial remixes, particularly "CoCo" by OT Genasis, which gained notable traction. He did a remix of "No Type" by Rae Sremmurd which landed him two opening slots for International Dubstep duo, Adventure Club, and Trap Icon, DJ Carnage.

During the summer of 2014, MKSMTH joined G-Eazy's World Tour, “From The Bay To The Universe”, as the opening act in over 70 cities.[4] In 2015, he returned home and continued DJ’ing at various Bay-Area venues, opening for the likes of Lil Jon[5], White Panda and Falcons. During this period, he performed at noted venues such as Temple, Simple, DNA Lounge, San Jose Live, Avalon and The Catalyst. He also performed with and produced for Bay Area legends, Iamsu!, Jay Ant, Kamaiyah, and Marty Grimes. After a year of club DJing, in 2016, MKSMTH once again joined G-Eazy's second World Tour, “Endless Summer”, with Logic, YG, and Yo Gotti.[6][7]

2017-present[edit]

In 2017, he went on tour as support talent with Pop duo, Terror Jr. and also released his first original EDM single titled "No Sleep" featuring vocalist, Plaenet Wun.[8] In April, he played at the Lollapalooza Festival in the VIP private tent and in August, played at Supercity Festival in Oakland, California, which was headlined by Skrillex, Laidback Luke and Krewella. He also played at Hiero Day Festival, which was his four consecutive appearance. MKSMTH toured through global destinations such as London, Hong Kong, Tokyo and scattered parts of North America for various bookings throughout 2017.

In 2018 MKSMTH released his second single titled, "I Want You". In 2019, he released another single "Temperature" featuring Phil Crown, one half of the Pop EDM group Mike & Phil.[9] In May 2019, he went on his second tour with Terror Jr. for the duo's “Unfortunately” Tour, with California singer, Kossisko, for a total of 24 dates.[10][11][12] In May 2019, MKSMTH was commissioned to do an official remix of DJ Snake and French Montana's song, "Fuego", which is scheduled to release in 2019. His upcoming project has a single titled "Up and Down", featuring Grammy nominated artist, Los Rakas. MKSMTH is currently being managed by David Jackson of Firstquake Entertainment.
