Mobina Galore is a Canadian punk rock duo based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. They were formed in 2011 by guitarist/vocalist Jenna Priestner and drummer/vocalist Marcia Hanson. They are signed to New Damage Records (North America) and Gunner Records (Europe/UK). They have released 3 LPs, Cities Away (2014), Feeling Disconnected (2017), and Don’t Worry (2019). CBC Radio 3 named Mobina Galore one of the top 15 punk bands in Canada in 2015[2]

History and formation[edit]

Hanson is a multi instrumentalist and plays piano, ukulele, guitar, and drums. Her decision to switch to make the drums her main instrument came about after her father told her that “bands always need drummers."[3]

Priestner started playing guitar at 12 years old after switching from piano lessons[4]

The two met in 2008 in Fernie, British Columbia through mutual friends and began playing together. They first started playing Tegan and Sara songs in Priestner’s practice space before eventually turning their attention to writing and playing their own original songs.[5][6]

It was never the band’s intention to be a duo and an early iteration of the band included a keyboard player. Eventually the band decided to continue as a duo rather the two credit that decision as the key to their sound.[7]

Mobina Galore has spoken out about the challenges of being taken seriously early on in their career or getting their music played on radio[8][9]

The duo have released three LP's to date, 2014's Cities Away, 2017's Feeling Disconnected, and 2019's Don't Worry - the latter of the three was accompanied by a making-of documentary titled: Sorry, I'm A Mess on youtube[10][11]

The band was nominated for Rock Artist of the Year Western Canadian Music Awards in 2017[12] and 2020.[13][14]

Tours[edit]

Mobina Galore has an extensive tour history in North America and Europe and have opened for several notable bands including Propagandhi,[15] Against Me!,[16][17] Laura Jane Grace

They have showcased NXNE, Juno Fest, Big Fun Festival, Canadian Music Week, Pouzza Fest, and Groezrock Festival[18]
