Modulr Finance is a UK financial technology company that offers banking services and based in Hammersmith, London, with offices in Edinburgh, Scotland, and Dublin, Ireland.

The London-based startup was established in 2015, by Myles Stephenson and his team and has grown to over 110 employees by January 2019. The main part of its business is to supply API access to allow for quick and secure transfer of bank funds for third party companies, such as Revolut and Sage.

Since the first pilot client went live in 2016, Modulr has onboarded more than 77 direct customers and processed £5.7bn of aggregate payment volume on its platform.

History[edit]

In 2016, Modulr Finance started developing an API to take advantage of the new banking initiatve from the Competition and Markets Authority on behalf of the UK Government known as Open Banking.[2]

In July 2018, after opening its first office in Edinburgh, its highlighted by The Scotsman in its review of the fintech industry in Scotland.[3]

In October 2018, Modulr Finance won two awards for Best B2B Payments Programme and Best Technical Organisation supporting Emerging Payments at the Emerging Payments Awards 2018. They also won the Silver prize in the Leading Payments Start-Up category.[4]

In November 2018, the company won the International Payments Provider Award and the Technology Award at The Rewards Strategy Awards 2018, the industry organisation for the payroll, reward, pensions, benefits and HR sectors.[5]

In December 2018, Myles Stephenson was appointed Deputy Chair to the Emerging Payments Association (EPA) Advisory Board.[6]
