Mohamed El-Brolosy (born July 16, 1992) is an Egyptian molecular biologist at the Whitehead Institute Cambridge, Mass. He is known for his work on genetic compensation.[1]

Education[edit]

El-Brolosy studied at the German University in Cairo[2] and earned a Doctor of Philosophy under the supervision of Didier Stainier at Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research, where he worked on genetic compensation, a phenomenon in which increased expression of functionally related genes compensates for the function of a mutated gene.[3]

Career and research[edit]

In 2020 El-Brolosy became a Junior Fellow of the Harvard Society of Fellows[4] and moved to the Whitehead Institute, where he collaborates with Jonathan Weissman. El-Brolosy is studying genetic compensation and its relevance to genetic diseases, as well as developing methods to study human genetic variants in a high-throughput manner.
