On 7 December 2022, at around 7:50 a.m. (CET) two trains travelling in the same direction collided whilst one was parked at the Montcada i Reixac - Manresa station in Montcada i Reixac, located in the outskirts of Barcelona, Spain.[1] The trains, which were both on the R4 line, were carrying 1,300 passengers towards Barcelona.[2] 155 people were injured, 39 of whom had to be treated in health centres and were discharged later the same day.[3] A reported 15 calls were made to emergency services, the first of which was received just before 8 a.m..[4] Both affected trains were evacuated by firefighters, which were part of the seven crews sent to help with the incident.[2] Emergency services said no one was considered to be seriously injured, and that some people had reportedly suffered a broken ankle or bruised nose. Firefighters said that no passengers were trapped.[4]
