The Montreal International Wreath Awards Film Festival (MIWAFF) was founded in 2014 with the goal of promoting democracy in the film industry. The film festival is based in Montreal Canada and is fully Canadian owned.

Unlike many film festivals which only require a film being screened and approved by one member of their staff to be selected for the festival, MIWAFF creates a jury process of people within the industry to make the decisions. This is done through creating a jury of people who work in the movie industry to make the decision. Each of these jury members are then tasked to watch the entire catalogue of submitted films and then give their opinions in a meeting of the jury members. In order for a film to be nominated for an award, it needs to receive a simple majority (50%+1) of the jury’s votes. After the nominations have been decided, there is a voting process within each category to decide the winner.

The categories for awards in this festival are as followed: Best Documentary, Best Cinematography, The Rising Filmmaker Award, Best Music, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director. In the past people who have won awards in this festival are people such as the French director Marc Saez, the Olympic gymnast Jérémy Chartier, and Columbian actress Viviana Santos. Hollywood star Philip Winchester, Korean Drama star Shin Min Jae, and Bollywood star Ranojoy Bishnu have all been nominated for awards in the past. MIWAFF takes pride in having a diverse selection of films from all around the world.
