His content usually consists of daily videos relating to the Grand Theft Auto video game series (most recently, Grand Theft Auto V) and other Rockstar Games titles. Multiple online video games related media sources, including International Business Times (IBT) which has featured his content on multiple occasions, with IBT doing so within their Video games category. He has been referred to by IBT as a "Renowned YouTuber" on multiple occasions and a mistake he made was covered by Kotaku and MTV News in 2015.
YouTube career
Hudgins launched his YouTube channel under the name MrBossFTW in March 2010.[1] In the years since, the channel has grown substantially, amassing over half a billion video views and a subscriber base exceeding 1.8 million,[1] with his work being featured by major outlets including MTV,[2] Kotaku,[3] and several other gaming media publications.[4][5][6] His content has centered primarily around Grand Theft Auto, with particular emphasis on the fifth installment, Grand Theft Auto V,[7][8] alongside coverage of other Rockstar Games titles.[9][10] Reflecting his standing within the community, Rockstar Games itself has invited him as a guest on official live streams[11] and has featured his content on the company's official newswire.[12]
Hudgins also co-created a now-discontinued video podcast series called The Squadcast, produced alongside fellow YouTubers Dat Saintsfan and Jobless Garrett. The series gained official recognition when it was featured on the Rockstar Newswire on March 24, 2014.[13] Throughout its run, the hosts discussed news related to Rockstar Games, while viewers were invited to submit questions by email for a chance to have them answered on camera.[13] In total, the series produced 31 episodes, running from February 11, 2014, to October 6, 2014.[14]
On March 19, 2014, Hudgins took a significant step in formalizing his brand by incorporating the MrBossFTW name, establishing the one-person Domestic Profit Corporation known as MrBossFTW Corporation.[7]
Appearances in other media
Hudgins has been featured multiple times in online media outlets,[7][8][9] including Kotaku,[10] iDigitalTrends,[11] and International Business Times.[12][13] In the latter case, he has been featured in IBT's Technology/Video games category.[14] In an article by International Business Times and in one by the Daily Star discussing upcoming updates to Grand Theft Auto V, Hudgins was referred to as a "renowned [Grand Theft Auto] YouTuber".[12][15]
Images of his video content have also been used by internet publications,[16][17] including The Guardian.[18] The Inquisitr and Morning News USA have featured his content when discussing Grand Theft Auto content updates.[19]
An error he made in a livestream, resulting in the revealing of a Grand Theft Auto V PC video game license/serial key, which resulted in a viewer stealing it, was covered by Kotaku on April 13, 2015[10] and MTV News the following day.[20] MTV News equated the mistake as the "gaming equivalent of Instagramming your credit card."[20] Soon afterwards, the developers of the game, Rockstar Games, provided him with a new key.
