Oladeji Daniel "Deji" Olatunji (born 9 December 1996) is a British YouTube personality and vlogger with over 8.7 million subscribers and has had over 3 billion video views. His channel, as of January 2018, is the 142nd most subscribed channel on YouTube.[2][3][4] The name "ComedyShortsGamer" comes from Deji's passion for short comedy skits in gaming. His videos mostly consist of vlogs, challenges, pranks and game-play/commentary.
Personal life[edit]
Olatunji is ranked number one and two respectively as "UK’s Most Influential Youtube Creators" by Tubular Labs in 2015. On 4 September 2016, ComedyShortsGamer was involved in a severe car accident, where his car, an Audi TT, was completely destroyed as a result of the crash. He later released 2 videos; titled “i could've died” and “i escaped death” where he explains the accident.[5]
Career[edit]
Before his main channel, Olatunji began a Youtube channel named TheAngelzKid, which he created on 26 August 2011.[6] Deji opened his current Youtube account, ComedyShortsGamer, on 1 December 2011, with a gameplay video from Halo. In December 2016, Deji renamed the channel to 'Deji', now using it as his secondary channel.[7][8] By November 2017, Olatunji had reached over 8.5 million subscribers and 2 billion video views, whilst his secondary channel has reached over 530,000 subscribers and 12 million video views .[9][10]
Since making his channel, he has collaborated with other Youtube personalities, including: KSI (his brother), Marcus Butler, RackaRacka and Caspar Lee. Olatunji uploads a wide variety of videos, ranging from gameplay to pranks. His “Pranking My Mum” video is one of his most viewed pranking videos, with over 13 million views.[11]
Olatunji is active throughout social media, with over 1.68 million followers on Twitter, 2.0 million followers on Instagram and over 1.4 million likes on Facebook, as of January 2018. His talent management agency, OP Talent, shows “Comedy Shorts Gamer is one of the fastest growing UK YouTube and social media stars, regularly positioned at the top of the UK daily most viewed video charts behind his brother.”[12]
Awards and nominations[edit]
In a chart published by YouTube in December 2014, gamers and vloggers were revealed to be the "biggest stars on Youtube” for British viewers. In July 2015, AdvertisingAge featured Olatunji in their “10 Most Influential YouTube Stars Among Adults” study.[13][14] In November 2015, Olatunji was nominated by Melty for the "Cool is Everywhere award", which was later won by youtuber Joe Sugg.[15] In December Tubular Labs ranked Olatunji #2 in the “top ten most influential UK YouTube creators” list.[16]
