Muhammad Nurul Karim (28 November 1909 - 24 September 1992) was a Bangladeshi writer and Professor of history. He was the Vice-principal of Dhaka College and Principal of Government Teachers' Training College, Rajshahi. [1]

Early life and education[edit]

Born in Feni, Karim completed his B.A. (Hons) in history from Feni College under the University of Calcutta. He did his M.A. in history from the University of Dhaka in 1935 and stood first class first.

Career[edit]

Karim worked in various academic institutions in different positions. He served as a lecturer in history at the University of Dhaka from 1936 to 1937. In his long career, he served as the departmental head in history and Vice-principal of several colleges including Dhaka College. He was the Principal of Government Teachers' Training College, Rajshahi.[1]

He was also a member of the Syndicate of Rajshahi University. He was the head examiner in history at Dhaka and Rajshahi Education Board and wrote, reviewed, and edited numerous textbooks of primary and secondary levels.

Works[edit]

Karim was a regular contributor in reputed dailies, including The Bangladesh Observer and The Bangladesh Times. He also used to take part in radio programs on Islamic culture and historical topics. He presented papers at many conferences at home and abroad.

He authored several books, both in Bangla and English. His widely acclaimed books include,

  • Islam: A Religion of Truth, 1980 [2]
  • The Beacon Light of Islam, 1983 [3][4]

Endowment[edit]

Karim established the Professor Muhammad Nurul Karim Trust Fund at the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh in 1991.[5]

Death[edit]

Muhammad Nurul Karim passed away in Dhaka on 24 September 1992.
