Munich German (Austro-Bavarian: Mingarisch, German: Münchnerisch) is a dialect of the Bavarian language spoken in Munich, the third-largest city in Germany.
Trends
In more recent times the dialect has moved closer to Standard German than the other surrounding Bavarian dialects. Because of the immigration from other parts of Germany to Munich during the last 50 years, the city dialect of Munich has developed into a kind of Standard German spoken with a Bavarian accent, and with a few local words. Today, the dialect can be understood fine by most German-speaking people, although most of the surrounding Bavarian dialects are mutually unintelligible with Standard German.[citation needed]
